How will Liverpool fare in the Champions League this season?

Liverpool were 90 minutes away from being the champions of Europe last season. But those 90 minutes were against Real Madrid. It was never going to be easy and those two errors from Loris Karius ensured that the Liverpool fans would never forget those 90 minutes.

Now, Liverpool have a chance to embark on another journey in Europe. But this time around, they have been drawn in an immensely tough group. In fact, the Reds have been drawn in Group C, the group of death.

Fixture Analysis

The toughest test for Liverpool in Group C would be facing French champions Paris Saint-Germain. If the fixture wasn’t tough enough already, the Premier League will make it tougher for the Reds. Klopp’s men travel to Wembley Stadium to face Spurs on 15th September and then welcome Thomas Tuchel’s PSG to Anfield three days later.

Klopp must utilize his squad smartly to get through the tricky winter months. The French champions host Liverpool at the end of November. Getting even a single point of this match could make the difference between a place in the knock-out rounds of the Champions League and the knock-out rounds of the Europa League.

After the PSG test, Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli will be waiting for Liverpool at Stadio San Paolo. Facing an Italian giant away from home is a tough task in itself but for Jurgen Klopp’s men, it has become almost an impossible job.

Liverpool

Liverpool face Chelsea in London on 29th November and host Manchester City on 7th October. The Napoli tie is sandwiched between these two fixtures, making it difficult for Klopp to keep his players fit for three high-profile and high-intensity games.

Red Star Belgrade might turn out to be the whipping boys of the group. Six points off Belgrade is a must for Liverpool to have any chance of qualifying through to the knock-out round.

Liverpool have invested heavily in their squad this summer and brought in some quality players. These signings were made for situations like these where the club have to play important matches in a short space of time. The signings have increased the depth in the squad and now, it is Klopp’s job to manage the resources cleverly.
