After Nese’s release for WWE in the summer, he was referred to as one of the “hot free agents in pro wrestling.” He became a free agent officially this September. From then he appeared in various indie scenes.

AEW’s Twitter handles even mentioned a GIF of him in the arena, stating that he will be in action tonight.

The match where he was seen was the AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament, where Bryan defeated Rhodes to move forward to the next round.

Tony Nese was released from WWE this summer

In June, Nese was released by WWE, though he appeared on WWE 205 Live brand and worked quite nicely there. Nese took to Twitter after his release and mentioned how WWE 205 is unwatched, and he worked so hard only to get neglected, but he has not lost hope and will continue to work like that for someone else.

“Thank you everyone! I don’t care about how unwatched and underappreciated 205 was. busted my ass every single time I stepped foot in the ring doing whatever was asked of me with no questions asked. I can’t wait to be that type of employee for someone else.”

Tony won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship one time by defeating Murphy in the cruiserweight tournament final. His reign was 77 days when he lost his title in a triple threat match involving Drew Gulak and Akira Tozawa.

Nese was a part of the 12 Superstars that WWE released subsequently.
