AEW commentator Jim Ross surprised at debut of Malakai Black on Dynamite

AEW commentator Jim Ross reveals that he had no information about the shock debut of Malakai Black on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

Black made his debut knocking out Arn Anderson and Cody Rhodes in quick succession, after the lights went out.

Ross was eagerly excited at the acquisition and reacted like most of the AEW fans in the arena. Speaking to Busted Open, he says: (h/t Wrestling Inc)

“Well, I’ll tell you the honest to God truth — I didn’t even know that he was there. We were in a unique building that was kind of old school, had different levels, and different, little cubby-holes. It was funny, Mark [Henry], Big Show, and I shared a room for the announcers.”

“I react better if I don’t know the lay of the land, as much. I don’t look at this as a theatrical performance. We look at this as a ballgame, and I don’t need to know who wins the game until the game is over. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised that Malakai Black joined us.”

Black’s arrival in AEW was the talk of town as he made an appearance within 40 days of his departure from WWE. He was released in early June, after WWE suffered budget cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Black’s arrival has shaken things up completely and surprised the entire wrestling fraternity in one night.

What does Malakai Black’s signing do for AEW?

Tony Khan has signed one of the hottest free agents in wrestling right now. His release in WWE was seen as a wrong move by many and McMahon may live to regret it. Black has wrestled all over the world including Europe and Japan and has the potential to reach the top.
