Candice LeRae and Johnny Gargano were so close and yet so far away from winning titles at TakeOver 31

There was a real chance for the husband-wife pairing of Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae to become champions on WWE NXT.

The pair fought for titles at TakeOver 31 and put on great performances. However, things weren’t meant to be.

Both lost their matches and frustration boiled over in the end. The pair felt broken after this and seemed to snap.

There were some other fantastic moments over the week too and here are our best GIFs.

1) Family Feud

Dominik Mysterio took on Murphy on Raw but the real talking point was what happened after the match.

Aalyah seems to have taken a liking to Murphy and she didn’t want Dominik to use weapons on the Aussie.

She slapped her brother and walked away in disgust while Seth Rollins stole Murphy’s phone to share some of the texts shared between Aalyah and the Disciple.

WWE seems to be heading towards another love angle, and that might not be great but Aalyah hitting her brother certainly was a huge moment.

2) Orton cleans house

Randy Orton faked leaving Raw this week and returned wearing night-vision goggles and dressed up as a janitor.

This was to take revenge on all the WWE legends who attacked him at Clash of Champions. While Ric Flair, Christian, Big Show and Shawn Michaels played cards, Orton made his move.

The lights went off, Orton’s goggles went on and he cleaned house. The Viper certainly had the aces up his sleeve and he delivered a full house to clean out everyone.

3) Smart Gargano

Gargano took on Damian Priest for the NXT North American title and he used all his smarts in hopes of claiming the crown.

One moment saw the champion, Priest, soar through the air but Gargano decided to have some fun. He used a couple of guards and they took the blow while he avoided getting hit.

This was just one of the great moves from Gargano in the match. However, Johnny Wrestling was unable to get the win.

This let him to question what was going on but more was to come for his wife.

4) Shattered and broken

Io Shirai is a tough competitor and LeRae knew she had to be at her best to defeat the NXT Women’s champion.

However, Gargano also entered the fray as an additional referee and tried to help his wife get the gold.

For all the scheming ways of the husband-wife pair, again, things didn’t work out. Shirai was able to overcome the odds and stay the champion while Gargano and LeRae looked broken.

The pair cut a frustrated figure after the match and vented out on social media. This was a great chance for one of them to get gold but unfortunately, both of them failed big time.
