Wolves Opinion: Why Daniel Podence will be a good fit at the Molineux?

According to FosOnline, Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Olympiakos attacker Daniel Podence in the summer transfer window.

Daniel Podence, 23, a client of Jorge Mendes, has enjoyed a solid season with Olympiakos, scoring eight goals and nine assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. He has shone in his first season in Greece after moving from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

In fact, Wolves were interested in signing the 23-year-old before he left Sporting Lisbon for Olympiakos last summer but as Mendes already had sent Rui Patricio to Molineux from Sporting, preferred to see his client go to Olympiakos with a view to earning a transfer to a better club either this summer or the next, adds the report.

The likes of Rui Patricio, Helder Costa, Joao Moutinho, Ivan Cavaleiro, Diogo Jota and Ruben Neves are all represented by Mendes and Podence could be the next to join the Portuguese contingent at the Molineux. The winger is under contract at Olympiakos until June 2021, although, could leave after just a season in Greece if Wolves come up with a good offer.

Wolves have performed brilliantly upon their return to the Premier League but Nuno Espirito Santo would like to go one step further next season. That makes a couple of smart signings important in the transfer window that could take the Midlands outfit to the next level.

And signing Podence would be a step in the right direction for Wolves. Expectations were high when Wolves signed Adama Traore from Middlesbrough in the summer but the speedy winger has failed to live up to his potential. While Nuno cannot simply offload Traore after just one season, he can bring competition that could see the 23-year-old perform at his best.

Podence has decent pace and creativity under his belt and can complete dribbles from midfield without losing possession of the ball. He is highly versatile as he can play in multiple positions across the frontline. The Portuguese can create and score goals in equal measure, whilst offering any manager tactical flexibility in tricky games.

The potential acquisition of Podence will undoubtedly bolster Nuno’s attacking options at the Molineux. He will not only be an ideal winger for them but will also add healthy competition for Traore, Jota, Cavaleiro and Costa for a place in the Wolves starting XI.

Verdict

Thus, the 23-year-old Podence will be an excellent fit for Nuno’s Wolves as he could come in and help them challenge the ‘Big Six’ from next season.
