Chelsea Opinion: Neres has the right attributes to replace Hazard

According to recent reports from the Metro, Chelsea are considering a move for Brazilian international right-winger David Neres, who’s had a season that was nothing short of spectacular to try and replace Eden Hazard.

Despite Ajax’s unexpected exit from the Champions League at the semi-final stage, they have had a term to remember and Neres has been one of the key features of their line-up.

The Brazilian boasts excellent numbers in the league that read 8 goals and 11 assists from 29 league appearances. His starring displays were vital on their way to the league title in which they were comfortable winners.

Their European run was one to remember as well as this young group managed to trump both Real Madrid and Juventus on their way to the semi-final.

He is certainly a pacy customer and has his ability to move the ball swiftly makes him a real threat when he makes those trademark darting runs forward. Although he does lose the ball at times, his attacking potential is massive and his finishing attributes are strong too once he gets into the opposition box.

The 22-year-old is a product of the São Paulo academy and came through the ranks at the Brazilian club, before eventually joining Ajax. Since completing the transfer in January 2017, he has gradually become a key figure in the side and his exploits have become vital to the side’s positive trend in recent seasons.

Chelsea are the club being linked with the Brazilian and this move could turn out to be one of the signings of the season if they’re able to complete it.

While there are various factors which could affect this move, the most important one would be whether or not Chelsea are able to overcome the transfer ban that’s hanging over their shoulders.

There is a similar player to Neres in the Chelsea ranks already in the form of Willian.

The former Shaktar Donetsk man has been one of the standout performers for the Blues over the last few seasons and some of his goals have come at crucial times for the side from Southwest-London as well.

Considering that Eden Hazard is being touted to complete his dream move to Real Madrid in the summer, Chelsea will certainly be short of numbers unless they’re allowed to make some additions in the transfer market.

Although their loan army extends all across the continent and beyond, keeping their star players will be a priority.

With Hazard’s future up in the air and both Willian and Pedro now pushing 30, it’s the right time for Chelsea to invest in the future.

Their acquisition of Christian Pulisic has been a positive sign and if they’re able to complete a move for this young Brazilian, it would certainly come as a statement of intent.
