Kasper Dolberg would be a long-term solution to Liverpool’s No.9 conundrum

According to an earlier report from the Sky Sports, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a personal admirer of Ajax youngster Kasper Dolberg and labelled him as a fantastic player with a great future.

A youth product of Danish club Silkeborg IF, Dolberg joined Ajax at the age of 17 back in 2015 and made his senior debut in 2016. He enjoyed a fantastic debut 2016-17 season where he accumulated 16 goals and 6 assists from 29 appearances in the Dutch top flight.

Dolberg has been in tremendous form in the Eredivisie this season as well, accumulating 7 goals and an assist from 11 appearances. The 21-year-old, who has 10 international caps to his name, has continued his development in the right direction and is very close to becoming the finished product who is capable of making his mark in any top league in Europe.

Standing at 6ft.2 inches with a strong well-built frame, the Dane is known for his versatility and dynamism as a centre-forward. His abilities on the pitch go against the belief that tall and well-built strikers can only operate as a target man to bring others into play.

While Dolberg can certainly hold on to the ball and play as a target man to set up goals for his teammates, he has plenty of others weapons in his repertoire that makes him a complete forward. The Dane is exceptionally quick and agile for a forward of his stature and his strength and physicality coupled with his sudden burst of pace and acceleration is enough to terrorise the defenders.

One of his most impressive attributes is his eye for goal. Dolberg has a powerful right foot which is capable of finding the net with pile drivers from outside the box. His ability to score from outside the box makes him all the more dangerous.

To add to his shooting abilities, the Dane is also known for his agility off the ball and positional awareness inside the box. He has a knack of being at the right place and at the right time to get on the end of crosses and through balls. Furthermore, he has a decent aerial game and can head it home from indirect set-pieces as well.

To put things into perspective, Liverpool should start keeping an eye on his rapid progress. Going by the way he has developed his game at such a young age, it won’t be long before some of the top European clubs come calling for the youngster and Liverpool should take the first initiative.
