Tottenham Opinion: Signing Lo Celso will raise Spurs to the next level
According to a recent report by AS, Real Betis’ Argentine midfield sensation Giovani Lo Celso has been linked with a potential summer move to the Premier League with Mauricio Pochettino’s Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur being listed as one of the front-runners for the youngster’s signature.
Although his current deal at Betis only becomes permanent next month, a move away from La Liga could mean that the club are able to make a fairly impressive profit. This would mean a large amount of money for the club to invest in a number of positions and considering the season he’s had in La Liga, it wouldn’t be a surprise is he is valued quite highly.
Having come up through the ranks at Argentine club Rosario, the youngster was scouted and signed up by Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2016. After being loaned back to Rosario for 6 months, he finally retired to Paris midway through the 16/17 campaign and had an immediate impact.
Despite eventually falling out of the starting spots at the French capital, a 23-year-old Lo Celso had already made over 50 appearances for PSG and had even notched up and impressive 6 goals and 9 assists. Although he doesn’t involve himself too much in the final third, it’s actually in midfield were Lo Celso comes into his own.
When in his preferred territory in the centre of the pitch, it’s almost impossible to take the ball off him as he boasts quick feet as well as the ability to play short and precise passes with utmost ease. His ability to knock the ball around and control the pace of a game is second to one and he has the potential to grow into one of the best midfielders in the world.
Tottenham fans and the staff alike have now understood the importance of the transfer market as their strategy to make no new signings last summer did backfire quite badly during the busy Christmas period. The injuries suffered by Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min all came at a devastating time in their season and if it wasn’t for a couple of summer signings, they could potentially have finished ahead of Chelsea on the table.

The addition of Lo Celso will add something fresh to the Spurs midfield. Pochettino has often resorted to using Moussa Sissoko as a central midfielder and Lo Celso would definitely be a massive upgrade on the Frenchman. This move makes complete sense for a team like Tottenham and they must get it done in the summer.
