3 players Tottenham should follow up with new deals following Kane’s contract extension

Harry Kane enjoyed yet another brilliant season for Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 30 goals this time around to mark his personal best in the league. But Kane was finally usurped by Liverpool attacker Mohammed Salah, who scored 32 to break the all-time record for most goals in a single campaign. Spurs eventually finished 3rd in the league, one spot above Liverpool.

Mauricio Pochettino will now be looking to make certain additions to his squad but it is also important for the club to renew the contracts of certain star players. Tottenham have already signed a new contract with Harry Kane, which will run till 2024.

The announcement of Kane’s contract renewal comes within a month of manager Mauricio Pochettino signing a new five-year contract as well, which will keep him at the club till 2023. With that done and dusted, chairman Daniel Levy should aim to renew the contracts of other players. Here we take a look at three first-team stars that Spurs must sign new contracts with.

Toby Alderweireld

The Belgian’s current contract will expire in 2019. Alongside Jan Vertonghen, Alderweireld has created a formidable partnership at the heard of the defence. The former Southampton defender’s season was blighted by injuries this in the previous campaign. But he made it back just in time for the end of the campaign. Despite the lack of game time, Alderweireld was selected in the Belgium squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia. The 29-year-old is a force to reckon with and Levy should tie him down with a new contract as soon as possible.

Mousa Dembele

Just like Alderweireld, Dembele is another Belgian whose current contract runs till 2019. He has been an integral part of this Spurs team so far. A bullish yet strong beast in the middle of the park, Dembele’s ability to hold onto the ball is bettered by no one else in the squad. He is one of the first names on Pochettino’s matchday line-up. Any Premier League side would be more than willing to have the player, and hence, Tottenham should offer him a new contract and give him a considerable raise.

Christian Eriksen

Eriksen is one of Pochettino’s most valuable players in the squad. His influence is such that when the Dane has a poor game, so does the whole team. He has a contract with Tottenham that currently runs until 2020. The midfielder is widely renowned for his ability to pick the locks coupled with the danger he produces from set-pieces. His all-around displays have reportedly attracted the interest of Barcelona, which is why it is absolutely vital for Levy to offer him a new contract with a higher salary package.
