Why Jesus Corona would be a good fit at Manchester United

According to CaughtOffside (h/t Express), Manchester United are considering an approach for Porto star Jesus Corona.

The Red Devils have identified the 27-year-old Mexican as a potential alternative to Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, who is at the top of their wish list. With United facing stiff competition from several clubs in Europe for hiss signing, they are looking for different options. One of them being Corona. (h/t Express)

Moreover, Corona is also a financially viable option compared to Sancho, who is likely cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side a huge sum of money. (h/t Express)

An outright winger, Corona has been in sensational form for Porto this season that has seen the side climb to first place in the league table. He has scored three goals and provided a whopping 17 assists across all competitions for the Portuguese side.

His eye-catching displays for Porto in recent times have seen Corona evolve into one of the first name on the team sheet since his arrival from Eredivisie side FC Twente in the summer of 2015. A regular feature within the Porto line-up Corona has played in all of their 25 league games this season and is currently the side’s highest assist-provider in the league with 10 to his credit.

In his five seasons with Porto, Corona has amassed 212 appearances for them. He has 27 goals and 51 assists to his name. This itself speaks volumes regarding the Mexican’s talent and it is no big surprise United have now shown an interest in him.

Corona will offer Manchester United more options in attack

Meanwhile, United should look to recruit established wingers with the side currently having two recognised faces – Marcus Rashford and Daniel James in their ranks.

Rashford, however, prefers to play across the left that has seen newcomer James playing on the right. Despite establishing himself in the team, James still has a lot to work on his attacking game. And Corona’s arrival would offer the Wales attacker competition for a starting role, spurring him on to do better.

Already a proven performer with Porto, it wouldn’t take Corona much time to adjust to new surroundings at Old Trafford. He would also offer manager Solskjaer plenty of options in the attack. The added depth and quality would in turn help them to close the gap to the top.

Hence, a move for an experienced campaigner such as Corona makes complete sense and seems like a wise decision by the club.

It is clearly evident that Manchester United have a dearth of wingers in their side. And, Corona’s arrival will only make them stronger. Having proved his mettle already, he would a good fit at Old Trafford if United fail in their efforts to land the highly sought after Sancho.
