Ralf Schumacher has suggested that Sebastian Vettel can replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes
There have been speculations of Lewis Hamilton leaving F1 ever since the controversial ending to the Abu Dhabi GP. As the 2022 F1 season inches closer everyone is still awaiting a reply from Hamilton. Former F1 racer Ralf Schumacher has weighed in on this and recently spoke about a potential candidate to replace the Brit at Mercedes.
“Vettel would take the opportunity, 100 percent. That would be a possibility, especially since a personnel change has now also taken place at Aston Martin that may not be quite as ideal for Sebastian. If he had the opportunity to get into this team, of course, he would take it one hundred percent, because [it’s] a better chance to race again that’s what Sebastian wants. He wants to win races, he showed that too.”
With the 2022 Formula One season just under three months away, it will be interesting to see whether Hamilton returns to F1 or hangs up his driving boots.
Sebastian Vettel won the overtaking award for 2021
The 2021 F1 season saw the inclusion of a new award called the overtaking award. Sebastian Vettel ended up winning the inaugural overtaking award. Throughout his 22 races in 2021, Vettel overtook 132 times. Second to Vettel was another F1 veteran, Fernando Alonso who recorded 128 overtakes, just four shy of the German.
Apart from achieving the feat of 132 overtakes, the German had a rather mediocre 2021 season. Vettel would be keen on improving his performances for the next season.
