Marina Rodriguez is one of the most prominent names in women’s MMA in the past few years. She was born in April 1987 and was an athletic kid growing up. Rodriguez played volleyball, soccer, basketball, handball as a teenager which explains her great fitness and agility inside the octagon.
Her entry into MMA makes for an amazing story. Rodriguez got a job as a graphic designer but she wanted to get into fitness to lose some of the gained weight. As a result, she joined a Muay Thai class in 2013. Later on, she started taking some amateur bouts.
A couple of years later, she went professional, and since then, a contract with UFC has followed, where she fights in the women’s strawweight division.
Net Worth and Payouts
Marina Rodriguez has an impressive net worth of approximately $1million as of 2020 which is largely down to her time with the UFC. She has been with the promotion for 3 years now and has fought 7 times in that time.
As for her payouts, her biggest payday came against Amanda Ribas at UFC 257. Rodriguez took home $95,000 after her win that night. This includes the win bonus and the Performance of the Night bonus.
In total, it is estimated that she has won around $200,000 in her MMA career. She doesn’t seem to be hanging up her gloves anytime soon and we can expect her to add to that tally in the coming years.
MMA and UFC Record
In MMA, Marina Rodriguez has an amazing professional record of 14-1-2. Her UFC record is 5-1-2, which means that she was 9-0-0 in Brazil before she made the jump to the United States.
Her UFC debut came in Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, Brazil 2, in 2018. There, she beat Maria de Oliveira Neta via a round 1 TKO. And since then, she has fought some big names in the UFC.
These include Cynthia Calvillo, Amanda Ribas, and Jessica Aguilar. Her most notable UFC victory was undoubtedly her 2nd round win against Ribas at UFC 257, the PPV where Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor headlined.
Husband, Family, Endorsements
Marina Rodriguez is private when it comes to posting or talking about her family and her personal life. A peek at her social media gives no real hint into her relationship status, but it seems that she is unmarried and does not currently have a boyfriend.
As for her family, she was born in Bage, Brazil, to Luis and Diva Rodriguez. She also has two brothers, named Roberto and Gabriel, with the former being an accomplished swimmer.
Rodriguez’s endorsements, at least to our knowledge, come prominent on her social media accounts. She is seen posting pictures with local brands such as Acai Fruit, and other brands such as BeLive and sports brand, Kinesio Sport.
Rodriguez’s next fight was a big one after she folded Amanda Ribas in January 2021. She takes on #9-ranked women’s strawweight fighter, Michel Waterson (18-9-0), who is on the back of a win against Angela Hill in September 2020.
If the Brazilian wins this bout, which is scheduled to take place on May 8th, 2021 at UFC on ESPN 24, then she can break into the top 5 women’s strawweight fighters.
That division is currently spearheaded by Rose Namajunas after her stunning victory against Weili Zhang. Rodriguez is currently ranked 6th.
It was Rodriguez was got the win after the five-round main event.
