It might be hot in Australia during the Australian Open but female tennis umpire Marijana Veljovic has been turning heads too
The Australian Open is known for temperatures to be hot on court but there is another major talking point regarding female tennis umpire Marijana Veljovic.
The female umpire was in the midst of it all last year when Veljovic called one of Roger Federer’s greatest matches.
However, she was facing the hot headed Nick Kyrgios too and the female umpire didn’t blink one bit. Kyrgios is known to throw tantrums when things don’t go his way but Veljovic wasn’t fazed by all this.
This isn’t the first time she has officiated in the Australian Open but she always makes the news, somehow.
Veljovic also seems to have a bit of a following outside of the tennis world but who is this umpire?
Who is female tennis umpire Marijana Veljovic?
The 34-year-old has made the news for her looks with some fans comparing her to Jennifer Lopez. The umpire has also gotten the attention of some of the tennis greats.
Boris Becker made some weird comments about her when he said (News AU)
“I have to say, the umpire is extremely pretty.”
There was more to come though. Canadian star Eugenie Bouchard, who has been complimented about her looks and tennis skills too shared a similar comment about Veljovic.
This came in that Federer match that we were talking about and the tennis star said that “The umpire in this Roger/Tennys match is super pretty.”
However, Veljovic isn’t just about the looks as she has to do a good job as the umpire in one of the biggest tournaments in the world.
The 34-year-old is a gold certified umpire and received her badge in 2015. The Serbian has officiated some big matches such as the 2018 Australian Open Women’s Singles final.
Wimbledon also saw the Serbian grace the occasion as she was the head umpire in the 2019 Women’s Singles Finals.
Veljovic has also officiated in the 2019 Fed Cup and she seems to have an Instagram account as well.
Though it is private, she does have quite a following and if she keeps her cool in tough moments, like the one against Kyrgios, Veljovic will only gain more fans in the future.
