Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor are 1-1 in their history but The Diamond might not be keen on a trilogy
This result came as a bit of a shock as many believed the old McGregor is back. However, Poirier was able to TKO his rival and avenge the loss from UFC 178.
Poirier also seems to be in the running for the UFC Lightweight title. Khabib Nurmagomedov is holding the title but he isn’t keen on returning. Khabib beat Poirier in the past and it will be interesting to see what happens with the UFC belt.
However, McGregor’s coach claimed that the Irishman wants to face Poirier in a third fight for the Lightweight title.
Both are former champions, Poirier being an interim one, and McGregor also wants a third fight. However, Poirier doesn’t seem all that interested in a trilogy and went out to say that he is the champion.
The Diamond has been calling himself the uncrowned champion since winning at UFC 257 but there is a lot of competition for the gold.
White has to take some big decisions regarding the title
Poirier should be in the title scene but who he faces is a big question. A rematch with McGregor, the third one, would be another blockbuster event.
However, McGregor fighting for the title after a loss isn’t right. Justin Gaethje also spoke about needing to get a win before going for the title as he had lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov in his last outing.
Charles Oliveira looked impressive in the dismantling of Tony Ferguson. On the other hand, Michael Chandler was also impressive on his UFC debut after he knocked out Dan Hooker in the co-main event at UFC 257.
