Why Aston Villa should go after Emiliano Buendia in January

According to Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa held an interest in Emiliano Buendia in the summer. The player was said to be quite unhappy at the situation in the summer as he was excluded from the starting line-up. While talks about a transfer have been put on hold, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the likes of Villa, Leeds United and Crystal Palace come back for him.

Emiliano Buendia had a brief stint in the youth ranks of Real Madrid before completing his development at Getafe. He initially featured for the club’s reserve side in the third tier before making his La Liga debut during the 2014-15 season.

However, the Argentine midfielder struggled to establish himself as a regular fixture at Getafe and joined Norwich City in 2018 after impressing on loan at Cultural Leonesa in the Spanish second-tier.

The 23-year-old bagged 8 goals and 12 assists during the 2018-19 season as the Canaries secured promotion to the PL as the outright winners of the Championship.

Buendia was one of the brightest sparks in an otherwise disappointing 2019-20 campaign for Daniel Farke’s side that ultimately ended in relegation from the top-flight. The diminutive playmaker impressed with a goal and 7 assists in 36 PL appearances.

Buendia would be a fantastic addition to Villa’s attack

Aston Villa have shocked quite a few people this season with the results they have managed to secure. Sitting pretty at 6th, the Villans tore apart Liverpool and Arsenal by scarcely believable scorelines.

New signings Ollie Watkins and Ross Barkley have settled well into the side, becoming vital members within a short while. While the trio of Grealish, Watkins and Barkley have combined well, the right-wing remains the odd position.

Trezeguet, Bertrand Traore and Anwar El Ghazi are yet to nail down their spot. The addition of Emiliano Buendia here can solve this issue right away for manager Dean Smith. Buendia is a natural right-winger who can play as an attacking midfielder and as a left-winger.

The player has carried on his form from last season and is again tearing up the Championship. Aston Villa should return for the prolific youngster in January because it would amplify their attack even more. Imagine a quartet of Buendia, Grealish, Watkins and Barkley lining up.
