Bye bye Zidane? – Three managers who Real Madrid can consider as the Frenchman’s successor

Three managers who can replace Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane is facing the heat at Real Madrid after consecutive losses. An unexpected loss to Cadiz in La Liga was compounded by Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League when the Ukranians laid waste to them. They won the El Clasico against Barcelona to make lives better for themselves but the 2-2 draw versus Borussia Monchengladbach raises more questions.

The club legend is still safe for now but a couple more bad results and he could be relieved of his duties (source – Express). Such are the levels of expectation at Madrid that someone new could be brought along if Zidane can’t get the job done. Below we take a look at three such managers who are capable of replacing him if he does indeed get the sack.

1. Mauricio Pochettino

Always being linked to the top jobs ever since his dismissal from Spurs, Pochettino was always going to be a contender for this one. A manager who likes to play fast-paced attacking football, he looks like a perfect fit for a team who are used to playing the same way.

He has encouraged youth at his previous clubs and at Real, he will have a lot more of that to work with. Pochettino is used to working with stringent transfer funds, something he won’t have to face at Real Madrid. The only drawback would be his lack of trophies but given the club’s resources, that could change easily.

2. Max Allegri

Quite how Max Allegri is still out of a job is baffling. The former Juventus manager has not managed a team since being let go by the Italian giants in 2019. He was a serial winner with the Italians, winning 5 Serie A titles and pushing them to two Champions League finals apart from multiple domestic cups.

Allegri is one of the finest tacticians of the game. Under him, Juventus became a winning machine. These factors would no doubt appeal to Florentino Perez, who would want a manager with a winning mentality.

3. Raul Gonzalez

Perhaps the most realistic and natural succession if we were to say. The Blancos legend is currently the manager of the Castilla side. The club have been grooming him much like they did with Zidane. He may not have any top level experience but that was the same with Zidane. Raul is a good option for Real Madrid to try.
