Henry Cejudo highlighted the problems that Dustin Poirier faces in the UFC for better pay

Dustin Poirier couldn’t come to terms regarding his UFC pay for a fight against Tony Ferguson

Henry Cejudo was the latest guest on the Schmozone podcast and Triple C had a ton of things to share.

The two-division UFC champion might have left the promotion but he was keen on getting into the Octagon with Alexander Volkanovski only.

Cejudo also hinted at having left the UFC because they weren’t paying him his desired amount. A similar issue has cropped up with Dustin Poirier as he couldn’t come to terms with what UFC wanted to pay him.

Poirier was set to face Tony Ferguson in a blockbuster clash but that has been cancelled. Ferguson also called out Dana White to pay Poirier the right amount, and Cejudo was asked to share his take on this.

“He [Poirier] doesn’t have the belt, doesn’t have the leverage. He’s a good guy, he’s good looking, does good charity work but he doesn’t have the leverage.

“You have leverage when you have the gold. Even in my situation, I had leverage and they did up my pay but it wasn’t what I wanted.”

Respect for White

While Cejudo and a host of other UFC stars have called out White over his pay structure, Triple C understood where the UFC president came from.

“At the same time, I respect my boss. I respect Uncle Dana White, why? Because he’s running his business and I am in his business.

“But I am a business too. I am not even upset because he is doing what is best for his business but at the same time I have to do what’s best for my company.”

“Do fighters deserve more pay? Absolutely.”

Cejudo ended by saying that while Poirier is a good “dude” and all, he needed to be more than that and have some leverage to get his pay on the right scale.

White has confirmed that Ferguson will fight someone else and expects El Cucuy to sign the deal. The president also hinted that Poirier might have backed out since he didn’t want to fight Ferguson.

However, The Diamond hit out at the president and added that he still wants to fight Ferguson.
