Why Hirving Lozano to Everton would bolster their attack
As per Corriere del Mezzogiorno (h/t Liverpool Echo), Napoli winger Hirving Lozano has come under the radar of Everton ahead of the summer transfer window.
Lozano, 24, came through the ranks of CF Pachuca’s youth system in his homeland. After four years with the Mexican outfit’s senior set-up, PSV Eindhoven signed him in the summer of 2017. During his time in the Netherlands, he made a name for himself.
His impressive performances caught the attention of Napoli, who signed him for a club-record fee of £36m. However, he has struggled to justify his price-tag in Italy, managing just 3 goals and an assist in 17 league games so far. And the report suggests that Everton could sign him this summer.
Lozano – A future leader in Everton’s attack
Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin have been the two main forwards for Everton this term. They have managed to score 23 goals of the team’s total of 38 so far. However, they have struggled for quality in wide areas. The Brazilian, who is a winger by trade, looks comfortable alongside Calvert-Lewin in the centre-forward position.
This has left the manager with just three wingers in Bernard, Alex Iwobi and Theo Walcott. They have not quite made the impact they would have wanted to this season. And Iwobi has also struggled with injuries for the majority of the season. Thus, a winger is a must in the summer.
In that regard, Lozano would be a viable option for the club. The Mexican may not have impressed in Italy this season but one must not forget his goalscoring exploits with his former clubs.
After netting 44 goals in 152 appearances for Pachuca, the striker made waves with PSV Eindhoven, scoring 40 goals in 79 appearances for the Dutch outfit. He has also been excellent at the international stage, scoring 10 goals in 39 games for Mexico.
The 24-year-old has scored 85 goals in his club career to date and the fact that he isn’t a natural centre-forward adds more value to his name. And his versatility could be a massive boost for the Toffees.
- Why Everton should reignite their interest in Teun Koopmeiners
- Why Everton should press ahead with their interest in Franck Kessie
The Mexican has the tools to succeed at Everton and at 24, he has a lot of room for development. He could provide Everton with the much-needed goals form the wide areas and could gon on to be a future leader in their attack if he is guided properly. Thus, they should lure Lozano to Goodison Park this summer.
