Why Declan Rice would be a great addition to Lampard’s Chelsea
Chelsea are very keen on securing the services of West Ham defensive midfielder/defender Declan Rice, who is one of the young hot prospects in England.
According to the Express, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is interested in signing the West Ham star. Rice has performed very well and Frank Lampard sees the player as a vocal presence. Declan Rice was an academy product of Chelsea and the club is hopeful of his return.
Rice is only 21 and has a contract with the Hammers until 2024 and the Hammers, as per transfer expert, McGarry, would have an asking price of £50m-£60m.
Seven years ago, Rice was deemed not good enough and was released by Chelsea. But he has enjoyed a very successful stint with the Hammers. Rice has been vital over the last two years at the club and has been of their most consistent performers.
The Express has also stated that Lampard is interested in bringing in Rice as a central defender but that raises questions on the future of the existing players. Chelsea already have the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen. They also have cover in the form of Fikayo Tomori. Matthew Miazga, Ethan Ampadu and Trevoh Chalobah too will be available after returning from loan.
If Rice makes his move to Chelsea, then the Blues may have to offload a couple of their players, as they will be looking for match time. There’s no doubt though that Rice will be a great addition to Lampard’s side. Rice has shown that he is a natural defender and his passing ability will be an added advantage.
If one watches West Ham, they are likely to understand the importance he holds in the team. He is a vital presence and West Ham would definitely be hoping the player ends up staying.

- Chelsea signing 23-year-old English star Ben Chilwell would be quite a boost to a key position
All in all, Rice should be a great addition to Chelsea given he has proven himself as a top-class player in the Premier League and can improve the club’s defensive unit.
