Why Leeds United must make a move for Reading’s Andy Rinomhota
Back in December 2019, the Football Insider (h/t Berkshire Live) claimed that Leeds United are keeping tabs on Reading midfielder Andy Rinomhota. However, the Whites didn’t make a move for the midfielder during the January transfer window.
Andy Rinomhota, 22, won Reading’s Player of the Season accolade last season. He signed a new contract with the Royals in February 2019 that keeps him at the club until 2022. The midfielder has made 28 appearances in the Championship this term, registering two assists.
The 22-year-old has been one of the rare bright sparks in an otherwise disappointing campaign for Reading, who currently lie 14th in the table. Having said that, Leeds United must rekindle their interest in Rinomhota when the transfer window opens in the summer.
The Whites are well in the hunt to win promotion to the Premier League. Seven points separate the Whites and 3rd-placed Fulham with just nine games to go, meaning it is firmly in Leeds’ hands ahead of the final run-in. They are in an excellent position to end their 16-year exile from the Premier League after winning five back-to-back games.
Hence, Marcelo Bielsa must start planning for the next season from now on and one area Bielsa should reinforce without any second thoughts is the midfield.
Kalvin Phillips has been a regular fixture for Leeds under Bielsa over the last two campaigns. His performances for the Whites have been impressive and this has seen him attract interest from Manchester United, Tottenham and Wolves. (h/t The Express)
There seems to be little debate that the midfielder will be playing Premier League football next year, with or without Leeds, and if the report is to be believed, he is not short of suitors.
Moreover, with Pablo Hernandez ageing and Adam Forshaw spending the majority of the campaign on the treatment table, the Whites must strengthen their midfield options. And Andy Rinomhota would be a smart fit at Elland Road.

Rinomhota is a talented footballer who broke into Reading’s first-team last season, managing 28 appearances. He has made 28 appearances in the Championship this term already, registering two assists. A defensive midfielder by trade, the 22-year-old can also play as a No.8. He would add some much-needed depth to the Leeds squad.
Leeds must keep tabs on Rinomhota’s performances until the end of the season. Should he continue doing well for Reading, the Whites must attempt to sign him during the summer transfer window.
