Why Man United must make the hard choice to part ways with Paul Pogba

According to The Sun, Juventus are plotting a move for French midfielder Paul Pogba in the summer and Paris Saint-Germain are also looking to take him on board.

Pogba, 26, Joined Manchester United’s U18 side from Le Havre in 2009. He played for United’s reserve teams and the youth teams before moving to Juventus on a free transfer in 2016. He established himself in Italy while lifting the Serie A title four times.

United then bought him back in 2016. He has been a regular member of the starting XI in the past three years, winning the Europa League and the League Cup in the 2016/17 season as he played a major role in both the competitions.

However, this season, he has not made himself available to United due to injury issues. Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have done quite well without the Frenchman for the majority of the season. Despite struggling without creativity in the initial stages, they have managed to reach 5th spot in the league standings.

The Red Devils have a plethora of midfield talents in their ranks. Fred and Scott McTominay have improved a lot under the Norwegian’s guidance. While the Scotsman was out for a while, Nemanja Matic did a decent job and looks to have improved.

The manager then signed Portuguese ace Bruno Fernandes to provide creativity in their attacking system. The former Sporting Lisbon man has repaid the faith Solskjaer showed on him by bringing life into United’s dull attack. He has scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists in 8 games for the club and looks set to claim a spot for himself the starting XI.

Pogba’s return to the squad would leave the manager in a dilemma, especially when Fernandes is in a rich vein of form. Hence, with Juan Mata also available to construct games for Solskjaer’s men, United should look to sell the World Cup winner rather than pay him £290,000-a-week.

The 26-year-old has featured in only 7 league games so far and by keeping him, United would be wasting their resources as he has never really fulfilled expectations at Old Trafford so far. They should look to sell him in the summer and make way for key signings.

Verdict

United have the chance to offload him at the moment and it would be a good choice for the club to sell him and save the money to sign young British talents. With the current bunch of midfielders looking set, it would be difficult for the manager to keep changing the starting XI if Pogba returns.

Hence, it would be a wise decision by United to offload the Frenchman as early as possible.
