Mercedes were able to land Lewis Hamilton thanks to the efforts of Niki Lauda
Drive to Survive Season 2 is out and it features Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes team.
The champions of 2019 will have a huge chunk of the show devoted to them and shared a clipping from the Netflix show.
Season 1 of Drive to Survive didn’t feature all the team but that changed for the 2019 season. The clipping highlights Toto Wolff speaking highly of the six-time world champion, but it was all down to one man, Niki Lauda.
Lauda, a three-time F1 world champion, and became the non-executive chairman of Mercedes.
The Austrian was one of the best in his time, and Hamilton admitted that Lauda convinced him to join the Germans:
“Niki was a key element in convincing me to join the team.”
Hamilton signed a new contract with Mercedes after that but is out of a deal at the end of this season.
Nevertheless, Lauda has been one of the biggest inspirations for Mercedes, and the team have honoured him with a red star on their car.
Lauda passed away in 2019, but he remains one of the greatest to have raced in F1.
Grab that popcorn, #DriveToSurvive season 2 is finally here! 🍿🎬

Mercedes and Hamilton looking at records
Mercedes could win a seventh straight constructor’s title if they do the job this season. That would be a remarkable feat, something that Ferrari achieved during the days of Michael Schumacher.
Similarly, Hamilton could also win his seventh title, his sixth with Mercedes, and tie with the legendary German.
Hamilton has been supreme since making the switch from McLaren to Mercedes, and he should be grateful to Lauda for bringing him here.
Mercedes have produced the best cars over the past six years, and it will be interesting to see if they do the same for 2020.
