Hardik Pandya has still not made it into the Indian side, due to an injury, while KL Rahul has grown into an important member of the current line-up
Both the cricketers had to face a lot of wrath from the cricketing community, fans, and people across the globe. Despite issuing an apology to fans and their own teammates, Hardik and Rahul were suspended by the BCCI and ousted from a three-match ODI series against Australia.
Besides that, the duo were also fined Rs 20 lakh each by the BCCI and ombudsman DK Jain directed the players to pay Rs 1 lakh each to the widows of 10 constables in paramilitary forces who had lost their lives on duty.
However, since that unfortunate event unfolded, many things have changed for both the players with either of them passing through contrasting paths within the course of time.
Pandya, who had earlier established himself as a regular within the side in all three formats of the game seems to have lost his spot ever since he aggravated a back injury that he had sustained in 2018, for which he had to undergo surgery in October.
Meanwhile, the all-rounder recently got engaged to actress Natasa Stankovic.
He last played a game for the Men in Blue in a T20I match against South Africa in September 2019 and had been named in India A squad for the recently concluded tour of New Zealand, paving the way for a comeback into the Indian team.
But the cricketer was deemed unfit to play and was given further time to undergo rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Rahul who was struggling to cement a place within the squad has now grown in stature and made a name for himself within the squad.
He has become such an important member of the squad that he is now entrusted with the duty of playing anywhere in attack, from opener to the fifth person.
The Karnataka batsman was the top-run getter in the recently concluded 5-match T20 series against New Zealand which India won and he played a crucial role in all of them.
Moreover, young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant’s poor form has seen Rahul being deployed as the first-choice keeper – a duty he carried out with utmost perfection until now.
With the upcoming World T20 World Cup soon on the cards, it remains to be seen if the two of them would once again be seen playing together.
