“Bunch of GOATS” – Twitter explodes as Roger Federer shares photo with Rafael Nadal and Bill Gates ahead of Match for Africa

Roger Federer will take on long-time rival Rafael Nadal in the Match for Africa, the proceedings of which will go to the Roger Federer Foundation

Roger Federer posted a photo of himself alongside his friend and long-time on-court rival Rafael Nadal and American business magnate Bill Gates ahead of the “Match for Africa” on Friday.

It did not take long as Twitter overflowed with messages in response to the Swiss maestro’s post, where three big-profile personalities shared the same screen space.

The ‘’Match for Africa” is an initiative by the Roger Federer Foundation which aims at raising money for children’s education in Africa.

It involves two exhibition matches – singles and doubles and is played with the hope of generating more than $1million for the foundation.

The exhibition matches will witness Federer team up alongside Microsoft co-founder Gates for the third time, as they take on Nadal and comedian and Daily Show host Trevor Noah in a doubles match on Friday.

The celebrity-exhibition match will be followed by a much-anticipated singles tie-off between superstar rivals Federer and Nadal which is expected to gather huge numbers into the court. The proceedings of the event will go towards Federer’s foundation.

Meanwhile, let’s take a quick glance at some of the twitter reactions that followed after Federer shared a photo of the three in his social media handle:

Record crowd expected

A record crowd of around 50,000 is expected to bear witness to match that will see two legends of the game, Federer and Nadal, once again face each other.

Also, with 10,000 tickets available for just US $11 each, huge numbers are expected to rush in for special encounters. Federer had earlier on Thursday said that he felt happy to be back in South Africa, the country of his mother’s birth.

“I’m very happy to be back in South Africa. And I’m excited that this match is finally around the corner. I have family here and have been wanting to come back for years. This really connects all the dots – playing tennis, raising money and doing it in South Africa, which is very special to me. I’m very happy, it’s here,” he said.
