India opener Rohit Sharma was on fire scoring 50 runs in just 23 balls
Indian opener Rohit Sharma destroyed New Zealand pacer Hamish Bennett, smashing him for 26 runs in one over en route to his 23-ball half-century in the third T20 between the two sides at Hamilton.
Sharma was on fire as he whacked Bennett for three sixes and two fours in the sixth over of the day leaving the crowd bemused.
Batting at 24 off 18 deliveries, Sharma more popularly known as India’s “Hitman” went on rampant mode by starting off with a sixer over backward square leg.
He then played a lofted drive which also reached straight into the stands making it two sixes in a row. This was followed by two back-to-back fours.
Sharma finished off the proceedings in style with a third and final six over the bowler’s head. However, surprisingly it was Bennett who returned to claim Rohit’s wicket sending him back to the pavilion after scoring 64 off 40 balls.
The Mumbai cricketer shifted gears with ease and despite a slow start to reach his joint-second fastest T20 fifty. He had earlier scored his fastest fifty in just 22 balls against West Indies in 2016.

Sharma back to his best
Rohit who struggled with single-digit scores of 7 and 8 in the first two T20 shut down his critics by also becoming the second-fastest opener to reach 10,000 international runs, breaching the mark in just 219 innings.
The 32-year old already holds the record for the most number of sixes in T20 international. Meanwhile, New Zealand who had won the toss had elected to bowl first sending the Indians to bat.
For India, Rohit (64) and captain Virat Kohli (38) top-scored, helping them register a total of 179 runs at the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
With the Kiwis yet to bat, the Indians would be a hopeful bunch and would be looking to seal the series, having already won the first two matches of the five.
