Why West Ham should sign Jarrod Bowen ahead of Leicester City
Leicester are linked with a move to land Jarrod Bowen, 22, who has already netted 15 times in the Championship this season. Big Championship departures in the last year have quite prevalent – like Oli McBurnie going from Swansea to Sheffield United and Adam Webster moving from Bristol City to Brighton. And it might be a similar case with Bowen.
Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester recently suffered a defeat to Manchester City, allowing the reigning Premier League champions to cut the gap to a solitary point.
During the 2018-19 campaign, the 22-year-old made 45 starts and one substitute appearance in the league for the Tigers, scoring 22 goals and providing four assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
Bowen can play anywhere along the front-line. And the forward has all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League. He is quick, possesses superb technique and has a real eye for goal.
It will be interesting to see whether West Ham can tempt Hull into a sale. Since the Tigers are in the playoff race right now, it would be a big gamble to let Bowen leave. With Andriy Yarmolenko far too hit-and-miss, adding Bowen to their options on the right would be smart for West Ham.
Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with Bowen from the past year. A dangerous left-footed winger who predominantly plays on the right flank, Bowen would be some addition for Spurs. Strong with his left foot and capable of providing good deliveries from wide areas, the 22-year-old has a mix of energy, end product and a few tricks up his sleeve.
Though he is not the quickest, the youngster has enough close control and awareness to protect possession well and can accelerate to earn the vital yards from his marker which is needed to either shoot or deliver.
Furthermore, his goalscoring return for a wide forward is quite impressive. Given that Hull have been in poor shape over the last two seasons, it does beg the question of just what Bowen could offer in a more productive and creative side.
While many clubs are interested in Bowen, a move to West Ham would be most suited as he perfectly fits the bill for the Hammers. With Haller struggling for goals and Yarmolenko being inconsistent, Bowen would be a valuable addition to West Ham.
