Manish Pandey top-scored for Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final
Manish Pandey was in great form during the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Surat.
The 30-year-old top-scored for his side with 60 runs and was left standing at the crease as Karnataka made 180/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Rohan Kadam scored 35 while Devdutt Padikkal scored 32 for the team from South India.
The moment of this innings belonged to Pandey. The India international smacked a huge six off Murugan Ashwin that left the commentators in awe too.
The 30-year-old smacked the ball straight past the bowler’s head and it cleared the side screen too.
Many fans were then videoed chasing the ball and one seems to have taken the memento and ran off.
Pandey is capable of doing a lot of damage in the shortest format of the game. He made his name in the IPL and has played for India in the two short formats of the game.
Karnataka win a thriller
Tamil Nadu did their best to win this 20 over final, but they came up just one run short in the end.
The team batting second had great contributions throughout the team, but just couldn’t get over the line.
Vijay Shankar and Baba Aparajith scored 40+ each in the run chase, however, Ravichandran Ashwin and Murugan Ashwin were left not out as Karnataka won the trophy.
Pandey certainly did his bit with the bat while the Karnataka bowlers tried to keep Tamil Nadu in check.
The T20 format has provided several close finishes and this was another one that will stay long in the memory.
Pandey hasn’t always been able to perform consistently for the national side, and it will be interesting to see if he is back in the team soon.
The 30-year-old does have a lot of quality when it comes to T20 games and that was on show against Tamil Nadu.
