“Glimpses of Mushfiqur” – Fans troll Ravichandran Ashwin for celebrating early in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final

Ravichandran Ashwin almost helped Tamil Nadu defeat Karnataka in the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Ravichandran Ashwin almost took Tamil Nadu past Karnataka in a crazy final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Karnataka had scored 180 in their 20 overs and Tamil Nadu ended up losing by just one run.

Ashwin had picked up a couple of wickets while bowling, and his team needed just 13 runs from six balls.

Vijay Shankar and Ashwin were the two batsmen on the crease and the India all-rounder seemed to have won the tie for Tamil Nadu.

He hit two boundaries of the first two balls from the over, and the team needed just five runs from the remaining four balls.

Ashwin was pictured celebrating after his second boundary but it seemed he was ready for the win a little early.

Krishnappa Gowtham bowled a dot in the next ball and Ashwin then got another run off the next.

Shankar was run out while taking a quick double and from the last ball, they could only get one more run.

Ashwin had taken his pads off in hopes of getting the three runs off the final ball, but it was not meant to be.

The Karnataka players celebrated wildly as they won the 20-over format and already held the 50-over title.

Fans rip into Ashwin

Ashwin is one of the best spinners to have played for India and it was a little weird seeing him celebrate early for Tamil Nadu.

Cricket, especially T20, has seen a lot of close finishes and you can never rule out a team unless they are mathematically out of the competition.

Several fans on Twitter decided to take a shot at the 33-year-old. Some of them even compared him to Bangladesh star Mushfiqur Rahim and how he celebrated when they almost beat India.

Nevertheless, Ashwin is still one of the best to have played the game. And the Indian will certainly be back in action sooner rather than later.
