NXT senior referee Jessika Carr is set to officiate on WWE SmackDown after years on the other brand
It was an emotional night in the last episode of NXT for WWE senior referee Jessika Carr.
The senior ref has called some big matches on NXT during her career at Full Sail and seems set to do the same at SmackDown.
It is to be seen when she officiates on the Blue brand, but Tommaso Ciampa shared an emotional message for Carr recently.
NXT is a tight-knit group and the referee seemed to be moved as she came out to thank the fans and other members of the brand.
Ciampa added that NXT was losing one of their “family members” and the arena broke out into a “Thank you, Jess” chant.
The stadium also started chanting “You deserve it” before she came into the ring to thank the fans. She spoke about breaking the ceiling and also how she was actually told to quit after an early match as a referee.
The Blackheart took a bit of a shot at SmackDown by claiming that Carr had made a “lateral” move to the Blue brand from NXT.
Carr thanked her “team of zebras” (other refs) at NXT while Triple H was also part of the goodbyes. The fans, wrestlers and officials all seemed to be happy for her, and this could be the start of something special for her.
It will be interesting to see if she is officiating in the next SmackDown episode, but Carr didn’t start her career as a referee.
Who is Jessika Carr?
The 28-year-old might have made her name as a referee in the ring, but she started her career as a singles competitor in 2010.
She came through Gillberg’s Professional Wrestling Academy and had to overcome weight problems to get into shape.
Carr has wrestled on the East Coast Wrestling Association and Vicious Outcast Wrestling before joining WWE.
The wrestler also fought at NXT under the name of Kennedy Lewis and lost to Nikki Cross in January 2017.
She wrestled her last match in April, which she won, and has done well as a referee.
Carr was NXT’s first full time female referee too and she seems set to break more glass ceilings on SmackDown.
