Why Scott Sinclair would be a smart signing for Derby County
According to the Football Insider (h/t the Derby Telegraph), Derby County are being linked with a January move for Celtic winger Scott Sinclair.
Derby County were considering a move for the Celtic star in the summer before they secured a season-long loan deal for Bristol City’s Jamie Paterson. Scott Sinclair stayed with the Hoops, for whom he scored 17 goals across all competitions and played a crucial role in helping the club achieve the historic treble ‘Treble’.
However, the English winger is yet to start a League game for Neil Lennon’s side in 2019-20. He is out of contract in the summer and it remains to be seen whether Sinclair will be handed an extension.
With Wayne Rooney arriving at Pride Park in January, and the likes of Tom Lawrence, Martyn Waghorn and Duane Holmes proving to be vital players in the final third, the addition of someone like Scott Sinclair could give Phillip Cocu-managed side’s attack a much-needed cutting edge.
Sinclair has been a great servant for Celtic, scoring 62 goals in over 160 games for the Scottish champions since arriving from Aston Villa in 2016. But this season, under Neil Lennon, the winger is yet to make a start for the Hoops, featuring just twice in the league and three more times in the Champions League qualifiers back in July.
The 30-year-old is hugely experienced and has played at the very highest level. Having been a key player for Celtic over the years, he has the quality to make a difference at the Championship level. Even at the age of 30, Sinclair still has a lot left in his tank and would provide an instant boost to Derby’s attacking ranks.

Furthermore, the former Manchester City man will be an upgrade over Florian Jozefzoon, who has flattered to deceive this term and hasn’t featured since the end of November.
All in all, Sinclair would be an excellent signing for the Rams and Cocu must go all out to land him at Pride Park in the New Year.
