Liverpool signing this tricky 21-year-old winger could help Klopp unearth the next big thing in the Premier League – Agreed?

Liverpool Opinion: Chiesa will be a blockbuster signing for the Reds

According to a recent report by the Daily Express, Premier League giants Liverpool are said to have cast their eye on Fiorentina’s Italian international winger Federico Chiesa regarding a possible move for the youngster in the upcoming summer transfer window.

It has been suggested that the prodigious winger is one of many players that manager Jurgen Klopp has shortlisted ahead of what could be a very important season for them.

Liverpool were just edged out by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side to the Premier League title but the champions’ defeat to Spurs in the semifinal of the Champions League set up a thrilling final for Reds fans.

Liverpool were the eventual winners as Mauricio Pochettino’s men pulled off an epic bottle job on the biggest stage. Despite Harry Kane’s premature return from injury, it wasn’t enough to keep the potent Liverpool attack at bay.

While more additions are being planned by the Liverpool hierarchy, whether or not they’re able to beat City to the long-awaited Premier League title next season could decide just how effective their sudden surge of success turns out to be.

Although they already have a fairly stacked side, there are certain areas within the team where a few acquisitions wouldn’t hurt their cause.

Although Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane did well together last season and ended up sharing the Golden Boot, the question of what happens to this side when one of them suffers from an inevitable knock remains up in the air.

The presence of talented players like Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will lessen the burden on Jurgen Klopp’s shoulders but some additional signings are certainly in order.

Moving for a player of the quality and potential of Federico Chiesa is certainly a pretty big statement by this Liverpool side.

His overall wing play is what has made him one of the most exciting young talents of this generation and on the pitch, he doesn’t give any impression of being a 21-year-old.

Supremely composed and collected on the ball, the Italian uses his body well to guard the ball and is more than capable of beating a man or two on his own.

He is a tall player who gets around the pitch with ease and isn’t afraid to put himself about while defending as well. Extremely good at tracking back and helping out the full-back, it would seem like the Italian has the ideal attributes to be a massive hit in the Premier League.

Liverpool’s interest in the player says a lot about his quality and getting this deal through the door at the earliest should be Jurgen Klopp’s number one priority in the summer.

Liverpool Paid Million pounds Settlement After Being Accused Of Spying On Manchester City

Published

Jurgen Klopp

A report from The Times is claiming that Liverpool paid Manchester City a £1 million settlement in September of 2013 after they were caught spying on the Etihad outfit.

It is claimed that the current Premier League champions hired espionage experts to see if their private networks had been compromised and Liverpool employees were later accused of hacking into City’s Scout7 system.

A settlement was negotiated by directors who are no longer at the club after a legal complaint was made to Liverpool by their top-flight counterparts stating that their database was unlawfully accessed via the login and password of a former City scout over an eight-month stretch from June 2012 to February 2013.

Per the Times, the settlement was reached without the Reds accepting wrongdoing and the accusations were never brought before a court.

“Liverpool paid a £1 million settlement to Manchester City after their Premier League rivals made a complaint that their scouting system had been hacked into,” a section of the report reads.

“The confidential settlement took place in September 2013 after it was reported that City had employed computer-espionage experts to see if the system had been spied on.

“The scandal would appear to be the biggest incident of alleged misbehaviour by one top-flight club to another in the Premier League’s history.”

If these allegations had been proven, City would have exposed be the biggest breach of trust among Premier League sides in the history of the division, unless there’s a lot more that has been kept under wraps. League rules state that “each club shall behave towards each other clubs and the League with utmost good faith,” and such a breach would have prompted heavy fines, as well as possible point deduction.

It is understood that City became suspicious after finding out that Liverpool also became interested in Real Zaragoza youth player Paolo Fernandes while they were scouting him. Their suspicions are said to have forced them to expedite negotiations to sign Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk and Spaniard Jesus Navas from Sevilla.

City signed Fernandes, now 21, in 2017 and he’s currently on loan at Perugia in Italy. The club refused to comment when contacted by certain UK outlets.

The Manchester side have only just completed a rout of Watford with an 8-0 win at home. They will be facing Everton at Goodison Park next weekend and are 1/3 favourites to topple the Toffees with Bet365, who are also offering 9/2 on a draw and 7/1 on a victory for the home side. Pep Guardiola’s men are favoured to retain the League title after winning it these past two seasons and William Hill has 8/11 odds on a third successive win. Meanwhile, Liverpool are at 7/5 with Paddy Power. Betway has odds of 66/1 on Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur winning the League while their London rivals Chelsea are 100/1 with Bet365.

City striker Sergio Aguero is the favourite to finish as the top flight’s top scorer at 7/2 with Betfair and Spurs’ Harry Kane is tied at the top with the same odds. Reds hotshot Mohamed Salah is 9/2 with Paddy Power while Raheem Sterling is 11/2.

3 Winners and 3 Losers from Premier League gameweek 5

Premier League action returned with a bang after the end of the first international break of the season and Round 5 of the 2019-20 campaign produced some mesmerizing football for all sets of fans to savour and admire.

Man City’s shock 3-2 defeat away at Norwich City was arguably the hottest talking point from this weekend, while a few of the other big-six clubs, including Man United, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea should also be happy with how things panned out for them in Round 5.

Arsenal blew away a two-goal lead at Vicarage Road to share the spoils in a 2-2 draw against Watford, while top-six hopefuls Everton were beaten 3-1 away at Bournemouth.

Watford and Wolves once again finished the week as the only two sides in the Premier League who are yet to register a single victory thus far.

Without further ado, let us take a look at 3 winners and 3 losers from Round 5 of the Premier League:

Winners

1. Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s side stretched their lead over defending champions Man City to five points at the top of the table, as a first-half brace from Sadio Mane followed by a third goal from Mo Salah in the second half guided the Reds to a comfortable 3-1 comeback victory over Newcastle United.

Jetro Willems put the Magpies in the driver’s seat early in the game with his pile driver from the edge of the box but heroics from Mane, and Roberto Firminio who came on as a substitute for Divock Origi midway through the first half ensured that Liverpool stretched their winning run in the Premier League to 14 games in a row, becoming only the fourth team to achieve such a feat.

While it was more of a regulation victory for Liverpool, the fans at Anfield have every reason to hope that Man City’s stumble at Carrow Road proves to be one of the title-defining moments later on in the season.

Nevertheless, for the time being, Liverpool have a lot of breathing space with a five-point lead at the top of the standings.

2. Chelsea

It was a treat to watch how Chelsea’s young guns completely whitewashed an underwhelming Wolves side 2-5 away from home on Saturday, with Tammy Abraham’s hat-trick making him the youngest Blues player to achieve such a feat in the Premier League.

Frank Lampard’s side had come under criticism for blowing away a two-goal lead at home against Sheffield United prior to the international break but the Blues absolutely demolished Wolves in ruthless fashion to get back to winning ways and finished the week placed 6th in the standings.

While Abraham stole much of the limelight with his hat-trick, fellow academy graduate Fikayo Tomori also got the crowd off its feet with an absolute stunner from 35 yards out, as did Mason Mount, who bagged his third goal of the league season.

3. Tottenham Hotspur

Having lost 1-0 to Newcastle United and drawn 2-2 away at Arsenal prior to the international break, Spurs came into the game against Crystal Palace with only a solitary victory in their first four games.

However, the home fans will be relieved after the Lilywhites produced arguably their best display of the season thus far and cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Roy Hodgson’s side, who dropped down to 12th place in the standings after that defeat.

An own goal from Patrick van Aanholt, sandwiched by Heung-min Son’s brace and Erik Lamela’s strike made the score 4-0 before the interval and though Spurs moved up to 3rd place in the standings this week, they still have plenty of catch-up to do if they are to get back in the title race.

Losers

1. Man City

It was always going to be interesting to see how Man City would cope with the opposition in the Premier League following Aymeric Laporte’s injury and the defensive blunders against Norwich City are sure to have Pep Guardiola scratching his head to find a solution for the upcoming fixtures.

Some poor marking allowed Kenny McLean to head home the opener for the Canaries early in the first-half before Teemu Pukki took advantage of some ineffective coordination at the back to set up Todd Cantwell for the second.

Sergio Aguero pulled one back just at the stroke of the interval but a horrible error from Nicolas Otamendi allowed Pukki to make it 3-1 in favour of the hosts. It stayed that way until Rodrigo found a late goal. City struggled to hit great heights against a Norwich side that ran them ragged with their never-say-die mentality on the pitch.

Undoubtedly, Man City’s defeat comes as the first big twist in the title race and Guardiola will be aware that his team cannot afford such slip-ups if they are to keep themselves within striking distance of Liverpool at the top of the table.

2. Arsenal

Arsenal didn’t have the worst of results in Round 5 but Unai Emery is likely to be disappointed to have come away with just a draw from the trip to Watford, with the Gunners blowing away a two-goal lead in the second half to somehow salvage a point.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s brace in the first half was cancelled out by goals from Tom Cleverly and Roberto Pereyra after the interval, the latter coming from the penalty spot after the Argentine was tripped by David Luiz inside the box.

A victory over Watford would have propelled the Gunners to 3rd place in the standings, ahead of Spurs, who currently hold that position, but some poor defending and lack of resilience at the back cost Arsenal heavily once again.

3. Everton

A victory over Bournemouth would have seen Everton finish the week in the top four but instead, the Toffees currently find themselves outside the top-ten, languishing at 11th place in the standings after suffering a 3-1 defeat to the Cherries away on the south coast.

Image result for everton

Callum Wilson’s opener was cancelled out by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header just at the stroke of the interval before Ryan Fraser made it 2-1 with a free-kick and Wilson put the game to bed with his second goal midway through the second half.

The Toffees failed to capitalise on their chances and this defeat definitely comes as a big blow to their hopes of challenging for a top-six place.
