Bournemouth Opinion: Why the Cherries should go for Harry Wilson?

According to a report from The Sun, Bournemouth are eyeing a £25m swoop for Liverpool ace Harry Wilson.

The Wales international, 22, made 43 appearances and scored 16 goals on a season-long loan at Derby County in the Championship. He was a vital member of Frank Lampard’s Derby side that came within one game of promotion to the Premier League.

Harry Wilson’s dazzling performances in the Championship seem to have also caught the eye of Wolves, Crystal Palace and Brighton, the report adds. But Bournemouth must do everything in their powers to sign the Welsh forward from Liverpool.

Wilson could be tempted to move to Bournemouth due to Eddie Howe’s rich reputation of nurturing young talents. He knows first-team football at Liverpool would be hard to come by with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane occupying the wide positions.

Bournemouth finished their season in 14th place when they were once in the running for a place in the top eight. The likes of Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser, Nathan Ake and David Brooks impressed in the 2018/19 season, making the Cherries potent going forward.

One of Bournemouth’s standout performers, Ryan Fraser, has already attracted a lot of attention from some of the Premier League’s top-six sides. The diminutive Scotsman was the team’s creative hub and while replacing him won’t be easy, it’s a job Eddie Howe should take care of.

That’s why a move for Harry Wilson makes a lot of sense. Immensely talented, the young winger made a stellar impact with Derby in the Championship and is more than capable of making the step up. Predominantly a right-winger, the 22-year-old can operate on the other side, as well as playing as a number 10 behind the striker, if required.

So, in terms of being versatile and able to impact games from various positions, the Welshman is right up there. Wilson has the pace to burn and uses his intelligence and ability to pick a pass in the final third of the pitch. He backs himself to take on his marker and beat him, whilst working hard off the ball.

All in all, the 22-year-old is a high-quality player, who could quickly adapt to the demands of the Premier League and play well there. Bournemouth shouldn’t hesitate in making a move for him.

Verdict

With Fraser’s future uncertain at the Vitality, Howe could do well by signing an attacking player ahead of the 2019/20 season. Wilson is a talented player and furthermore, he could settle down quickly at Bournemouth under the watchful eye of Eddie Howe.
