Norwich City Opinion: Why Norwich should go for Kostas Fortounis?
According to Greek outlet SDNA, Premier League duo Norwich City and West Ham are interested in Olympiakos attacker Kostas Fortounis.
The Greek forward, 26, scored 17 goals and produced 16 assists in all competitions to attract the attention of clubs in England. Unfortunately, his contributions were not enough to hand Olympiakos the Super League title.
While Kostas Fortounis’ contract is set to expire in 2020, Olympiakos want to extend his contract. Complications in the new deal have seen the 26-year-old attract interest from Norwich City and West Ham. And the Greek giants do not want to lose him on a free transfer next season and have slapped a £13 million price-tag on his head, adds the report.
That being said, Norwich must try and beat West Ham to Fortounis’ signature this summer.
After lifting the Sky Bet Championship title this season, the Canaries are preparing for life in the Premier League. Manager Daniel Farke is thought to want to keep the bulk of the squad together which won him promotion and look to make few additions that can make a telling impact.
Teemu Pukki finished top scorer in the Championship this past season, with the Finn being a revelation at the Carrow Road following his move from Brondby on a free transfer in 2018. But Farke will need a prolific forward in his ranks to not only cover and compete with Pukki, but also form a formidable attacking unit with the likes of Onel Hernandez, Marco Stiepermann and Emi Buendia.
That player could be Kostas Fortounis, who enjoyed an incredible 2018/19 campaign in Greece.
Fortounis, who can play anywhere across the front-line or operate as a false nine when required, scored goals for fun in the Greek Super League. The 26-year-old can create and score goals in equal measure, whilst his off the ball work ethic is commendable as well. The Greek international’s potential acquisition will not only bolster Norwich’s attack but also make Stiepermann step up his game.

The Canaries have a thrilling attack and the addition of Fortounis would give them a much-needed cutting edge. Also, he’ll be able to relieve some of Pukki’s goalscoring burden and the 26-year-old is a player that fits the mould of Farke.
Spending around £13 million would be a big risk for a player that has no prior experience in Premier League. But having bagged plenty of goals and assists with Olympiakos, Fortounis could be worth the gamble for the newly-promoted outfit.
