Chelsea beating transfer ban to land this world-class La Liga star would be nothing but a disaster move by Sarri

Chelsea opinion: Coutinho doesn’t suit Maurizio Sarri’s style of play

According to recent reports by the Daily Mail, Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho is being linked with a possible summer move to Premier League giants Chelsea as the Blues look to strengthen in the upcoming transfer window owing to the Eden Hazard transfer saga.

While the Belgian has been touted to join Real Madrid in the summer, whether or not Coutinho would fit in at Chelsea is a whole other question.

With the Blues also having to deal with an impending transfer ban, things could turn quite sour at Stamford Bridge soon unless some drastic decisions are made.

Hazard’s departure would be a massive blow – one that most Chelsea fans wouldn’t be too confident this group of players can recover from.

While there is loads of experience in the side, only the Belgian has been able to provide consistent displays.

His goals and assists have been crucial and it wouldn’t be too harsh to say that they’ve been dependent on him for large periods in the season. The expectations that are placed on him every week are monstrous as well.

Although the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain and the resurgence of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi have eased the load on the Belgian’s shoulders, without his magical touch, Chelsea wouldn’t be in the rather positive position they’re currently in.

With Philippe Coutinho being suggested as a possible replacement, Chelsea fans would be getting a seasoned Premier League professional who’s done wonders in this league before.

Formerly of Liverpool, the Brazilian’s exploits in England are the stuff of legend and a move to London would suit the player’s best interest. Although he recently made his dream move to Barcelona, the 26-year-old hasn’t had the impact he would’ve hoped for.

While he has managed to score some spectacular goals in the league, consistency has become an issue and this has seen him drop out of the XI on multiple occasions over the course of the campaign.

He made 34 appearances in the league this season and despite coming off the bench quite a lot, he managed to notch up a decent 5 goals and 2 assists.

While these figures are only average, his opportunities since making the switch have been limited too. Considering that he’s a proven Premier League player, a switch to Chelsea would only help him progress in his career.

While this is the case, his positional requirement is something that could come to haunt Chelsea. While he can be utilised on the flanks, his best performances have always come when operating almost as a second striker.

This could be an issue as it would be unlike the Italian to change his setup to accommodate a player. Despite his experience and previous exploits in the league, this is a move that the Blues would do well to avoid.

Everton Opinion: Why Malcom could be a smash hit at Goodison Park?

According to a report from the Sport, Everton are interested in Barcelona outcast Malcom.

The Brazilian, 22, joined Barcelona from Bordeaux last summer but endured a torrid debut season at Nou Camp. He played only 24 times across all competitions, scoring four goals.

The report claims Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde never wanted to sign Malcom last summer. Valverde’s lack of trust in the nippy wide-man makes it apparent and now Everton, who have a good rapport with the Barcelona hierarchy after doing three deals last summer, want to bring the Brazilian to the Goodison Park.

The Toffees are aiming to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. Marco Silva had a decent debut season at Goodison Park and will look to build on that. He needs to invest smartly in the transfer market and get the players that fit his style of play. Several departures are also expected this summer, with Theo Walcott likely to be among the players to be offloaded, as per the Daily Star.

Walcott has failed to live up to the expectations at Goodison Park following his switch from Arsenal in January 2018. He scored just five goals in 37 appearances this past term despite being heavily backed by the manager. But the former England international hasn’t done anything to improve the Toffees’ attack and must be shipped out of the club.

And Silva would be wise to replace the out of sorts Walcott with Malcom.

Malcom is one of the brightest young talents in Europe but has hit a brick wall in terms of his development at Barcelona. The winger needs to play week in week out in order to continue his development and at Everton, he could get that chance.

The Brazilian is predominantly a right winger but is capable of playing anywhere in attack. An expert dribbler, Malcom uses his pace and agility to take on defenders and beat them. He is very quick and destructive in the final third, capable of winning games single-handedly on his day.

The former Bordeaux ace would relish the chance to form a deadly attack with his Brazilian compatriots Richarlison and Bernard and he could prove a shrewd addition for the Toffees. Malcom would represent an instant upgrade on Walcott, whilst becoming a regular at Everton for years to come.

Also, the Brazilian winger is still only 22, which surely makes him an enticing prospect for director of football Marcel Brands, who would prefer to sign younger players with high sell-on value.

Verdict

Silva needs a quality wide player to improve Everton’s attack. Malcom is arguably tailor-made for Premier League and his burst of acceleration could potentially make him a valuable weapon for Silva’s Toffees.

Premier League Opinion: 2 ideal PL destinations for Philippe Coutinho

According to a recent report by Metro, Barcelona’s current record signing Philippe Coutinho is being linked with a possible move away from the Nou Camp this summer after spending just a year and a half at his dream club.

Since the move to Catalonia, the Brazilian has struggled to replicate the form he displayed while in Merseyside and his season has been full of difficult moments.

He had to deal with a lot of criticism from his own fans along the course of the campaign and his first full season as a Barcelona player didn’t show him in the best light. His form has dipped heavily and he’s found it very difficult to break into the La Liga line-up. Opportunities have been limited and he seems to have gotten used to coming off the bench at some point.

He hasn’t shown the touch or finesse he displayed in the red shirt at Anfield and his finishing from outside the box has let him down heavily as well. His numbers this season read just 5 goals and 2 assists from 34 league appearances and that’s the sign of a player who could use a move away to try and freshen things up a bit.

While a return to Liverpool would be a preferred move for the Brazilian, the Reds haven’t really looked keen on re-signing a player who forced his way out of the club less than 2 years ago. His Premier League experience, added to the fact that he excels in big games, means that a move back to English soil would aid the 26-year-old’s future ambitions as well.

It has been suggested that both Chelsea and Manchester United United have registered their interest in the former Liverpool man’s signature this summer. While a massive fee is sure to be involved, both of the European giants will be eager to bolster their squad by bringing a proven Premier League playmaker back to England.

Here’s how he would fare at these 2 PL clubs:

Chelsea

With the future of Eden Hazard still very much up in the air, the Blues will be looking to bring in as many reinforcements as possible in the summer.

Despite the impending transfer ban, the Blues have expressed their interest in a lot of players and Coutinho seems to be one of the priorities. His movement and overall play would suit the Blues’ style, making this a match made in heaven.

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably have to work really hard to try and integrate a technical player like Philippe Coutinho into what is a fairly raw squad.

Although Coutinho doesn’t necessarily fit into United’s system either, he certainly brings a lot of quality in the middle of the park and that bit of quality could be exactly what United have been lacking.

Chelsea Opinion: 2 players the Blues should invest in after Hazard sale

According to a recent report by The Sun, Chelsea’s mercurial Belgian star Eden Hazard is said to be on his way to Madrid to join up with Zinedine Zidane’s Real side in the coming weeks. It has been suggested that a fee of £115m has been agreed between the clubs and the transfer would see the Belgian weekly pay rise to £400k per week.

Eden Hazard has been Chelsea’s brightest talent since he joined them from Lille in the summer of 2012. He has helped the Blues to Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League successes during his long career as a fan-favourite at Stamford Bridge. He has produced some special goals along the way and used to be a Chelsea legend for a long time to come.

This season, the Belgian has taken his game to another level. Although he returned late from the World Cup, he started putting in mind-blowing displays in the league from day one. His dribbling seemed unreadable and defending against him was seen as a horror challenge.

For a change, he got the numbers to back up his brilliance as well having got 16 goals and 15 assists from 37 league games.

Here are two players that Chelsea could target to reinvest the £115m expected from the Eden Hazard sale:

Nicolas Pepe

The versatile Ivorian has been linked with a possible move to Liverpool according to a report by Metro. Although a fee in the region of £80m is being suggested, Eden Hazard’s sale would make that an affordable figure for the Blues. Replacing him will be a tough task, getting Pepe in will be a massive boost ahead of what could be a massive season for their future.

His displays for Lille this season have been quite inspiring and there’s no surprise that Liverpool have been quite keen on his signature. He has played in 38 games for Lille in the Ligue 1 this season and his figures read 22 goals and 11 assists. He has been a key figure for Lille and he’s even made 11 appearances for the Ivory Coast national side.

Philippe Coutinho

Another player being linked to the Blues is Philippe Coutinho, as suggested by Metro. The Brazilian international midfielder joined Barcelona from Liverpool to complete what was his dream move.

Despite being so highly-rated, he has struggled for form since moving to the Camp Nou and has found it extremely difficult to fit in with the squad. His opportunities have been quite limited and his has been in the shadow of the talented Barcelona attackers.

A move back to the Premier League would be a good choice for the Brazilian who needs to be playing regular first-team football at his age.

Now 26, he has featured in 34 La Liga games this season but has only managed to produce an underwhelming tally of 5 goals and 2 assists. A move to Chelsea could be the way to reignite his career and the Blues should go for it with both hands.
