Manchester United Opinion: Why the Red Devils should avoid signing Cavani
Manchester United are in regular contact with Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani’s entourage as they plot a summer swoop for the striker, reports the Metro.
The Uruguay international, 32, has a contract at PSG until the summer of 2020, yet there has been no talk of a contract extension between the player and the club. The 32-year-old has been a long-term target for Manchester United and there is a belief that they could land him this summer, adds the report.
If PSG are reluctant to offer Edinson Cavani an extension to his current contract, they’ll likely look to sell him at the end of this season in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2020. That being said, should the Red Devils make a move for the Uruguayan in the summer?
Seven defeats in nine matches have left United three points outside the Premier League’s top four and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having only just been appointed, is under no illusions as to how big the task is in front of him.
Solskjaer’s side were swept aside by cross-town rivals Manchester City on Wednesday night, just three days after a humiliating 4-0 thrashing at Everton.
The pressure is now firmly on the Norwegian, who was rewarded with the permanent job last month after winning 14 of his 19 matches in charge on an interim basis. The Red Devils’ squad is in serious need of an overhaul in the summer and that was evidently clear following their results in the past two games.
Before Solskjaer is judged, however, he must be given time to build his own squad with his own targets. The club has to prioritise strengthening the defence, which has leaked a staggering 50 goals in 35 games this season.
Focus must then turn on adding more firepower to the attack, as none of Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata can be relied upon to deliver the goods consistently. Plus, Romelu Lukaku has already hinted he could leave the club for Serie A, citing it as ‘a dream’.
That itself tells how far the 20-time Premier League champions have fallen and why they need a clinical striker from next season.

But Cavani isn’t the solution to United’s goalscoring woes. The Uruguayan has enjoyed another solid campaign in front of goal for PSG, helping the team win yet another Ligue 1 title. Despite his own goalscoring talent, he doesn’t fit into Solskjaer’s system and is already 32.
United need fresh, fast and exciting players in the summer to take the club forward. Cavani is one of the top strikers in Ligue 1 and has accomplished so much in Paris, but he is a player the Reds should avoid signing.
Arsenal beating Man Utd to sign this 23-year-old Frenchman would fix Emery’s defensive conundrum
Arsenal Opinion: Why the Gunners should go for Presnel Kimpembe?
According to a report from French news-site SoccerLink, Arsenal have been in contact with Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe’s dad in the hope of signing the French defender.
Presnel Kimpembe, 23, was in and out of the PSG team last season with Thiago Silva and Marquinhos usually preferred at centre-half. His season, however, was brought to a premature end as the defender underwent surgery on a troublesome groin injury last month.
Arsenal are not the only Premier League club interested in securing Kimpembe’s services. The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea are also keen on the 23-year-old, who managed only 24 Ligue 1 games in the 2018/19 campaign.
Manchester United have defensive problems of their own but it is Arsenal who should win the race for Kimpembe’s signature.
Unai Emery will have a limited budget to spend in the ongoing summer transfer window due to his team’s failure to achieve Champions League football next season. Thus, he’ll have to recruit smartly in order to address as many areas as possible. One such worrisome area is the defence, which the Spanish tactician failed to solve in his debut season at the Emirates.
Apart from Sokratis Papastathopoulos, none of Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny or Nacho Monreal were consistent at the back. Rob Holding showed a lot of promise and was close to nailing down a regular place in Emery’s starting XI, only for a knee injury to disrupt his campaign.
Calum Chambers has returned from his loan spell at Fulham and despite him being an option, a new central defender is required if the North London giants are to compete on all fronts next term.
Thus, the Gunners will take a step in the right direction by making a move for Kimpembe, who is well known to Emery after breaking through during the Spaniard’s reign at PSG.
A technically-gifted central defender, Kimpembe can also play at left-back when required.
He is a ball-playing centre-half, who likes to come out of his line with the ball and make a quick pass forward to one of his teammates. The seven-cap France international is also good in the air and has a good turn of pace through the ground that helps him make recovery runs.

Having conceded over 50 goals in the last two Premier League campaigns, a 23-year-old with bags of potential and Champions League experience might be an invaluable addition to the squad of the Europa League runners up.
A new central defender is a no-brainer for Arsenal and if Kimpembe arrives at the Emirates this summer, he would surely walk into Emery’s starting XI.
Man Utd signing this 26-year-old star with €120m buyout clause is a much-needed step if Solskjaer wants progress
Manchester United Opinion: Why Jan Oblak would be a top signing for United
According to a report from ESPN, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is keen on a move to Manchester United this summer.
The Slovenian, 26, has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and signed a contract extension with Atletico in April which includes a €120 million buyout clause. The report claims he has become seemingly frustrated at Atletico’s transfer activity this summer, with stars like Antoine Griezmann, Diego Godin, Lucas Hernandez, Filipe Luis and Juanfran all departing.
French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be interested, but Jan Oblak, a boyhood Manchester United fan, favours a move to Old Trafford. That being said, should United make a move for the Slovenian international this summer?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have started their massive summer rebuild with the club announcing last week that Swansea City’s Daniel James has agreed on a deal in principle to join Manchester United after passing a medical. Now the United manager should shift his focus to reinforcing his backline that conceded over 50 goals in the 2018/19 campaign. And the changes must start right from the goalkeeping department, with David de Gea hesitant to sign a new deal at the club.
De Gea, 28, had a very poor season according to the high standards he has set in the last few years at Old Trafford. While the Spaniard is regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, his reputation took a hit last season after he made several high-profile errors. However, he has a year left on his current deal, but United have refused to meet the goalkeeper’s wage demands during contract negotiations.
The 28-year-old shot-stopper could run down his contract after the Red Devils triggered a one-year extension to his current deal to keep him at Old Trafford until next summer. However, Solskjaer and co. would be wise to cash in on one of the best goalkeepers in the world and by doing so, United must replace De Gea with Jan Oblak this summer.
Oblak has excelled for club and country in recent years and is one of the few stoppers who can be deemed in the same class as the man he would replace at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old would go a long way to solving United’s defensive issues, whilst being a better distributor than De Gea. In the Slovenian, Solskjaer would be signing someone with experience at the top level of European football and a lot of quality.
United don’t have an urgency to reinforce the goalkeeping department, as there are other parts of the starting XI more desperate for improvement. If De Gea is sold, however, replacing the Spaniard with Oblak will be a step in the right direction.

Oblak would not come cheap in any case and United would likely have to break the bank to sign him. Should that happen, it’ll be a statement of intent from Solskjaer’s Red Army.
Crystal Palace’s midfield woes would be put to rest if Hodgson raids AS Monaco for this skilled 23-year-old ace
Crystal Palace Opinion: Why the Eagles should make a move for Kevin N’Doram
According to a report from the Soccer Link, Crystal Palace are one of the clubs interested in AS Monaco midfielder Kevin N’Doram. (h/t France Football)
The Frenchman, 23, managed just five appearances for AS Monaco in all competitions, as he missed the majority of the season due to a knee injury. Despite his lack of appearances last season, however, interest in the versatile midfielder is high, with the report suggesting the likes of Saint-Etienne, Montpellier, Metz, Nice and Rennes are all keen in Kevin N’Doram.
Crystal Palace are the only English club interested in signing the 23-year-old midfielder and interestingly hold the key due to N’Doram’s desire to move abroad this summer.
The Eagles finished 12th in the Premier League table after a really inconsistent campaign. They did get some good results on their way, but there are certain areas that need reinforcing if Roy Hodgson and co. are to challenge for a top-half finish next term.
One of the areas is the midfield, despite Palace having a plethora of options. In Luka Milivojevic, James McArthur, Max Meyer, Cheikhou Kouyate and Jeffrey Schlupp, Hodgson has options to choose from when deciding his midfield. But apart from Milivojevic, none of the aforementioned players consistently delivered the goods.
Milivojevic led from the front for the South Londoners, scored plenty of goals and protected the back four as well. But the Serbian lacked a partner in midfield that could help him keep things tidy. Expectations were very high when the Eagles signed Meyer on a free transfer from Schalke but he blew hot and cold throughout the campaign.
Kevin N’Doram could be the ideal partner to Milivojevic in midfield. Whilst N’Doram is naturally a defensive midfielder, he can also slot into central defence if needed and has spent his entire career at AS Monaco having progressed through his team’s youth ranks and up to senior level. The 23-year-old is strong on the ball and his tough nature would help him adjust to the grind and demand of the English football.

The Frenchman has the ability to orchestrate the tempo of the game from a deeper role in midfield despite being 23. The player is regarded for his energy, strength, tough-tackling and versatility, whereas his positional awareness and maturity on the ball should make him a proper fit to succeed at Selhurst Park.
Although Roy Hodgson will have to spend a lot of time and money bolstering Palace’s toothless attack, he’ll do well to spend some of it on M’Doram to solve his team’s midfield conundrum as well.
