Leeds United Opinion: Why the Whites should snap up Nick Powell?
According to a report from the Daily Star, Leeds United are interested in signing Wigan Athletic star Nick Powell.
The 25-year-old’s contract expires at DW Stadium expires in the summer, meaning any club could secure the player for free. After guiding Wigan to the League One title last season, he has scored six goals and laid on a further seven in only 25 appearances, despite an injury-ravaged campaign in the Championship.
Wigan will be desperate to hold onto Nick Powell but as of now, the 25-year-old hasn’t shown any desire to extend his stay at DW Stadium. Potentially available on a free transfer at the end of the season, Leeds United should go all out to bag his signature.
But the Spaniard, who has proven to be a crucial member for Bielsa, will turn 34 later this month. Not only will the Whites will need a long-term replacement for Hernandez but also someone to fill the void left by Samu Saiz, who is currently on loan at Getafe and is expected to leave the club on a permanent basis this summer.
Powell could be Saiz’s successor, whilst potentially being a long-term replacement for the ageing Hernandez.

The former England U21 international is a clever operator of the ball, versatile enough to play anywhere across the front-line. Powell will definitely add creativity and directness to Leeds’ play in the final third, whilst being a goal-threat.
Leeds making a move for Nick Powell will definitely help them, especially if they make it into the Premier League. There’s plenty of promise and room to grow for the playmaker and if Bielsa manages to unlock his potential, it could turn out to be a very fantastic signing indeed.
