Manchester United Opinion: 3 wingers United should look at instead of Costa
According to a report from Le10 Sport, Manchester United are one of the
Last month, the Brazilian winger, 28, sparked rumours of a move to Manchester United by liking a story on Twitter that claimed the Red Devils were preparing a summer move for him.
Douglas Costa has endured a frustrating season in Turin as manager Max Allegri has preferred other forwards to the Brazilian. The 28-year-old, who has a contract at Juventus until the summer of 2022, has managed only a single goal in 17 Serie A appearances.
The Metro claims Costa could fetch upwards of £60million, but for a player that has struggled all this season and will turn 29 in September, the fee is huge and United can certainly do much better than investing on the Juventus winger.
That being said, here are three players the Red Devils should consider instead of Costa this summer.
1. Suso (AC Milan)
United have faced problems on the right wing for
AC Milan star Suso would be perfect for Solskjaer’s United. The Spaniard has starred for Milan this season with five goals and eight assists in 26 Serie A games.
Suso’s pace, direct running and dribbling skills would add an extra dimension to United’s attack. The diminutive 25-year-old has all the attributes to flourish under Solskjaer.
2. Hirving Lozano (PSV Eindhoven)
PSV Eindhoven star Hirving Lozano has been on Manchester United’s radar in recent weeks.
The Mexican has been in sublime form in the Eredivisie, scoring 19 goals in all competitions thus far. He was excellent in the World Cup last year and has backed his 19-goal debut season in the Netherlands by producing the same figures again this term.
Lozano is a speedy winger and his passing, vision and creativity could be an invaluable asset for United on the right wing. His goalscoring return also shows that he can be clinical in the box. Undoubtedly, the Mexican star has the potential to be a world class player in the coming years.
3. Cengiz Under (AS Roma)
Cengiz Under joined AS Roma in the summer of 2017 and has since become one of the most importantly players of the club. He is rated very highly in European football, having already been involved in 15 goals so far this season, despite missing around a dozen games for AS Roma.
The young Turk can play on either flank and has the ability to play as a false 9 as well. The 21-year-old will surely prove value for money for United if they can convince Roma to sell him to.

With him, the Red Devils will have a natural right winger who has the ability to run at players, beat them with ease and provide crosses in the box. With his close control and exceptional dribbling skills, Under will be a top acquisition for Solskjaer’s side.
Forget Maguire and Koulibaly – Man Utd would be better off signing this £60m-rated ace instead and here’s why
Man United Opinion: Red Devils should drop their interest in Maguire and Koulibaly and sign Diop instead
According to Metro, Man United are interested in signing West Ham centre-back Issa Diop this summer, with reports claiming that the Red Devils are prepared to test the Hammers resolve with a big-money bid.
Diop, however, is not the only centre-back on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s radar, with United also linked with moves for Napoli’s Senegalese international stalwart Kalidou Koulibaly, as well as Leicester City star Harry Maguire. (h/t Metro)
United are prepared to offer £45 million to West Ham in order to bring the 22-year-old French youth international to Old Trafford but the Hammers are holding out for a fee of at least £60 million to part ways with their prized asset.
The East Londoners spent £22 million to bring Diop to the Premier League from French club Toulouse as a part of their spending spree last summer and it is understood that they now want more than twice that amount to let him depart following the youngster’s impressive debut season under Manuel Pellegrini.
Diop established himself as an ever-present at the back for West Ham in his very first season at the club and went on to make a total of 38 appearances for the Hammers in all competitions, scoring twice. The 22-year-old’s stocks have risen significantly since his arrival in England and the Old Trafford chiefs might as well need to loosen their purse strings if they are really serious about striking a deal for the Frenchman this summer.
Well, it is a no-brainer that United need to bring in a new centre-back this summer in order to sort out their defensive problems. The Red Devils conceded as many as 54 goals in the Premier League this past season, which was the second-worst defensive record amongst the top ten clubs and almost twice the number (28) that they shipped over the course of the 2017-18 season.
United’s backline has deteriorated significantly in a very short span of time and the likes of Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Ashley Young, Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling were all slammed numerous times by the fans and pundits for their inconsistent and lacklustre performances. Quite clearly, the Red Devils need to bring in upgrades on several of their options at the back if they are really serious about challenging for the Premier League title in the years to come, if not, next season.
Solskajer is likely to be backed heavily in the transfer market this time around but the Norwegian needs to be sensible with his approach while investing in players. As a matter of fact, United cannot afford to blow away the majority of their budget on one player, given that centre-back is not the only area that is in dire need of investment.
The Red Devils also need to bring in a replacement for departing club-captain Antonio Valencia or an upgrade on Ashley Young at right-back, whilst central midfield reinforcements following the departures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini are also likely to be high on the manager’s wishlist. Furthermore, United need to offload Alexis Sanchez and bring in quality centre-forward to replace Romelu Lukaku, given that the Belgian isn’t the best for Solskajer’s style of play.
It is true that the Red Devils cannot bolster all areas of their squad in a single transfer window, and while a centre-back remains a top priority, Solskajer needs to look at cheaper and more affordable alternatives to the likes of Maguire and Koulibaly to ensure that United give themselves a chance of solving as many problems as they can this summer itself.
Issa Diop is likely to be available for a fraction of that price, and although West Ham have slapped a £60 million price tag on the 22-year-old following his impressive debut season, the Red Devils should fancy their chances of bringing him to the club for a fee much lower than that.
Standing at 6ft. 4 inches with a towering well-built frame, Diop is a tremendous athlete and very fast and agile for a centre-back of his stature. A physically dominating defender noted for his speed, athleticism and supreme aerial ability, the Frenchman also impressed with his calmness, composure and decision-making at the back in the Premier League last season.
Blessed with the ball-playing qualities of a modern-day defender, Diop registered a pass success rate of 86 this past season. To add to that, the 22-year-old averaged 2.3 aerial duels, 2.1 tackles, 1.9 interceptions and 4.7 clearances per game in the Premier League, figures which speak volumes of his well-rounded attributes as a central defender. In fact, the youngster gave Man United a bitter taste of his robust defending when he played a key role in West Ham’s 3-1 victory over the Red Devils back in September last season.

Issa Diop has the potential to evolve into a world-class defender in the years to come and United have every reason to look at him as a good long-term, as well as, a short-term investment. The Frenchman is certainly good enough to play for their first-team and he is just 22, which is another reason why United should prefer Diop to the likes of more established and experienced central defenders, Maguire (26) and Koulibaly (27).
16 goals, 12 assists – Tottenham would bag an eye-catching bargain by signing this 22-year-old midfielder
Tottenham Opinion: Why Donny van de Beek would be a top signing for Spurs?
Dutch football pundit Marcel van der Kraan has told talkSPORT that Ajax star Donny van de Beek is keen on a move to Tottenham or Manchester United this summer.
The Dutch midfielder, 22, has had an impressive season in the Eredivisie, scoring 16 goals and 12 assists last season. He also helped Ajax make it to the semi-finals of the Champions League where they were knocked out by Tottenham.
Spurs are already said to be interested in Donny van de Beek and Van der Kraan’s recent claims on the midfielder wanting a move should be encouraging for Mauricio Pochettino and company. The North London club enjoy an extremely good relationship with Ajax, having signed Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Davison Sanchez from them.
Thus, they must make the most of their relationship with the Dutch club and bring in Donny van de Beek this summer.
Pochettino is expected to be backed heavily in the summer transfer window, with Tottenham not having signed a player since Lucas Moura in January 2018. One area he must prioritise strengthening is the midfield department, with the likes of Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks needing competition and cover.
Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama cannot be relied upon due to their injury problems and with Dele Alli enduring a poor last season, Spurs would do well by signing a central midfielder. In that case, Van de Beek would be ideal for Tottenham.
The 22-year-old is a classy creative playmaker, who is also comfortable playing in the middle of the park. He is a disciplined player, but the Dutchman is so dangerous when he makes late runs into the box.
The technically-gifted player possesses a wonderful array of passing, and he would offer Spurs something entirely different in the middle of the park.
He is known for his quality on the ball, incisive passing, vision and eye for goal. Van de Beek likes to keep the ball at his feet, works those pockets of space in the final third and creates problems for the opposition defences with his clever off the ball movement.

On the whole, the addition of someone of the Netherlands international’s talents would undoubtedly bolster Pochettino’s midfield options.
Van de Beek has proven this season that he is more than capable of mixing it with the very best in world football.
If Spurs are to sign anyone this summer, the Ajax star would be the chief candidate to boost their hopes of challenging for the Premier League title and other trophies next season.
23 goals, 17 assists – Here’s why Man Utd must rekindle interest in this 27-year-old ace with €18m release clause
Manchester United Opinion: Why Man United must go for Pablo Sarabia?
Manchester United’s rebuild under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is finally up and running, as the club completed the signing of Wales winger Daniel James from Swansea City on Wednesday.
James, 21, signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option to extend by a further year, to become manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing in charge of the Red Devils.
The Reds’ disappointing sixth-placed finish last season has now led to a renewed desire to improve the squad in certain areas, as they finished a massive 31 and 32 points behind top two Liverpool and Manchester City respectively. It will take a lot of spending from United to catch up with either of their rivals.
Scoring goals became a big problem in the final stages of the 2018/19 campaign and apparently was one of the reasons why United couldn’t qualify for the Champions League when they had every chance to do so. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku struggled to pierce well-drilled defences, while Solskjaer lacked a ‘Plan B’ from the bench.
Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata weren’t effective and Alexis Sanchez continued to be a shadow of his former self. Regardless of signing James, the Red Devils still need more firepower up front and an out-and-out right winger is the need of the hour.
Last year, the Express claimed United were interested in Sevilla star Pablo Sarabia. However, a deal didn’t materialise but the Premier League giants must reignite their interest in the wide playmaker and sign him this summer.
Pablo Sarabia, 27, enjoyed a fantastic season with Sevilla as he bagged 23 goals and 17 assists in 52 games across all competitions. However, he is out of contract next summer and could be cashed in during this transfer window. Given his form and cheap release clause, €18 million, United must quickly sign him from the Spanish outfit.
In Sarabia, Solskjaer would get a player who has many qualities including his ability to create chances from open play and set pieces. Roaming in between the lines within the attacking third, he is good with the ball at his feet and playing his way out of tight spaces. From the right, the Spaniard likes to cut inside on his stronger left foot and unleash ferocious shots towards goal.
Playing centrally or on the right side of his team’s attack, he has proven himself as a fleet-footed dribbler who can work himself into dangerous areas before creating threatening opportunities for his team. Sarabia is a natural finisher in front of goal and has the knack of finding the back of the net from long range.

Furthermore, the ex-Getafe man’s movement off the ball is absolutely fantastic which makes him a very tricky player to mark. The Red Devils could certainly benefit from such a creative influence in the final third of the pitch.
United have lacked a quality right-sided attacker for some time now and Sarabia can solve this problem for them. At 27, he is playing at his prime and could take Solskjaer’s side to the next level in the 2019/20 campaign.
