Predicted Manchester United XI to face Fulham in the Premier League

Manchester United played out an enthralling 2-2 draw against Arsenal at home in the Premier League on Wednesday.

The Red Devils have drawn each of their last three games in the Premier League and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they play host to Fulham on Saturday.

Fulham drew 1-1 against Leicester City in the mid-week clash but they will face an uphill battle when they make the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Team News

Luke Shaw and Phil Jones are struggling with knocks and are doubtful to feature on Saturday while Ashley Young will be back in contention after serving a one-game ban for having picked up five yellow cards but Anthony Martial is likely to miss the weekend game due to an injured hamstring. Victor Lindelof and Alexis Sanchez are ruled out with thigh injuries.

1. David de Gea (GK)

The Spaniard’s basic error led to a goal but he recovered well to make some key saves in the last game.

He made his return from injury against Arsenal and fared pretty well in a back three system.

3. Eric Bailly (RCB)

He was the pick of United’s backline in the last game and cleared the ball away more often than not to avoid danger.

The Argentine international made his first appearance of the season against Arsenal and looked pretty good at the back barring that bizarre moment which led to a goal.

5. Matteo Darmian (LWB)

The Italian looked very confident in a wing-back role against Arsenal and Mourinho should continue to rely on him.

Newcastle would solve their lack of wingers by signing this explosive Dutchman from relegated PL outfit

Newcastle United Opinion: Why Ryan Babel would be a good fit at Newcastle

Ryan Babel has indicated he will leave Fulham at the end of the season as he wants to be part of the Netherlands’ Euro 2020 squad.

The Dutchman, 32, joined Fulham from Besiktas in January 2019 on a deal until the end of the season. He has scored four goals and provided as many assists in 13 appearances for the Cottagers, although Fulham’s relegation has been confirmed earlier this month.

With Fulham being relegated, Babel seeks a move away from Craven Cottage when his contract expires in June 2019. Surprisingly, he has been linked with a move to Newcastle United, report the Daily Star.

Newcastle have achieved safety for the second successive season in the Premier League. They are currently 13th in the table, having crossed the magic 40-point mark at the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Southampton.

With top-flight survival achieved, Rafael Benitez’s attention should shift to the summer transfer window. The Magpies need fresh faces in the squad to make a statement in the 2019/20 campaign. Newcastle’s decision to break their transfer record in January for Miguel Almiron suggested the club has ambitions to compete with the big boys in the Premier League.

But high spending over the summer is unlikely, given the financial constraints the club have had since Mike Ashley bought the club in 2007. Thus, signing Ryan Babel would be a step in the right direction for a cash-hit club like Newcastle.

Babel, who has worked earlier under Benitez at Liverpool, has done extremely well in an underperforming Fulham side. The winger has shown that he still has two to three years of high-quality football left in himself. At 32, he still possesses good pace and agility to trouble the defenders.

The Netherlands international’s main attributes are his strength, aerial prowess and ability to make runs behind the defenders.

Blessed with a sound technique, he combines his strength with his technique to hold on to the ball and keep good close control in tight areas. The former Ajax man has the ability to lose his marker inside the box, creating the opening for his teammates to pick out the right pass.

Babel has a good eye for goal and has a powerful strike in his right foot. Furthermore, his strength and power to outmuscle defenders in the box and ability to time headers to perfection makes him a genuine threat from set-pieces and corners.

Verdict

As things stand, Newcastle lack a genuine, prolific wide-man that can consistently supply with assists and goals. Much of the Magpies’ success this season has been down to the exploits of Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez.

That needs to change from next season as the Tyneside-based side also needs goals from midfielders and wingers. Babel has shown plenty of promise on his return to the Premier League and his acquisition in the summer would certainly help Newcastle hit greater heights next season.

Newcastle and Fulham should not hesitate to complete a swap deal for this 23-goal attacker and £20m-rated star

Newcastle United Opinion: Magpies should complete Gayle-Cairney swap deal

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are interested in signing Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney in the summer, with Dwight Gayle going the other way in a swap deal.

Gayle, who has scored 23 goals for West Brom in the Championship this season, has attracted interest from Fulham, as the Cottagers plan for a season in the second tier following their relegation from the Premier League. (h/t Northern Echo)

Newcastle, on the other hand, have a long-standing interest in £20 million-rated midfielderTom Cairney, which is expected to resurface when Isaac Hayden leaves the club in the summer. (h/t Northern Echo)

Benitez’s contract at Tyneside is set to expire at the end of the season and the Spaniard is yet to extend his stay, as he waits to see what kind of budget the club allots him in the summer.

If Benitez does continue as the manager beyond the current season, he is likely to bring in some fresh faces to add more depth and quality to his squad.

Meanwhile, Fulham are likely to lose some of their star players in the summer after getting relegated, with Aleksandar Mitrovic being amongst those to have been linked with a move elsewhere. The Serb has hit double figures for Fulham in the Premier League and he is unlikely to stick around in the Championship.

The Cottagers would need to bolster their attack in the summer and find a replacement for Mitrovic if they are to secure promotion back to the Premier Leauge in the first time of asking.

And Dwight Gayle, despite his struggles in the top-flight over the years, has shown what a lethal a striker he can be at the Championship level.

The 28-year-old netted 23 goals in the second division in the 2016-17 season to fire Newcastle back to the Premier League and he has replicated that feat once again at West Brom this time around, though it remains to be seen whether the Baggies manage to get themselves back to the top-flight.

Nevertheless, Gayle is a proven source of goals at the Championship level and undoubtedly, the perfect man to propel Fulham to a promotion-winning campaign next term.

The Northern Echo claims that Gayle has no future at Newcastle and he would be prepared to stay at West Brom permanently, though Fulham also have a good chance of getting their hands on him come the end of the season.

Speaking about Tom Cairney, the Scotsman hasn’t had the kind of impact at Fulham in the Premier League as many would have expected, with injuries forcing him to spend considerable time on the sidelines.

However, he rose to the occasion last week and scored with a brilliant left-footed effort in Fulham’s 2-0 victory over Everton, showing exactly why Newcastle want to sign him in the summer.

The Magpies are at risk of losing several of their first-team central midfield options and Cairney, with his solid well-rounded attributes, should be a good fit at Tyneside.

Issac Hayden has been one of the standout performers for Newcastle this season but he is likely to complete a move away the north-east to stay closer to his family (h/t Shields Gazette). Mo Diame has been a useful long-term servant to the club but the Senegalese ace might also head for the exit door, as the Magpies are unwilling to hand him a long-term contract at the age of 31 (h/t Chronicle Live).

Sean Longstaff has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season at St.James’ Park and Ki-Sung Yueng has done reasonably well but Jonjo Shelvey has struggled for form and fitness, which might prompt Newcastle to cash in on him at the end of the season.

An intelligent midfielder noted for his vision, impressive range of distribution and quality on the ball, Cairney has a knack of turning the game on its head with defence-splitting through balls and key passes.

He likes to drive forward and makes those late runs into the dangerous areas in and around the penalty area, which should add another dimension to Newcastle’s existing options.

Furthermore, Cairney is more than capable of holding things together and cutting out attacks with his wonderful understanding of the game.

Gayle and Cairney are both aged 28 and are pretty much at the prime of their careers. While Newcastle should look at Cairney in a bid to solve their central midfield dilemma, Fulham should relish having a striker of Dwight Gayle’s pedigree in the Championship next season.

Swap deals in the transfer market don’t come off too often but it looks as if this one might just materialize, as it would be deal for all parties involved.

Fulham Opinion: Cottagers should appoint Neil Lennon as the manager

According to The Scottish Sun, Fulham have shortlisted Celtic manager Neil Lennon as a potential candidate to take up the job at Craven Cottage on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

The Cottagers are set for a season in the Championship next term after getting relegated from the Premier League and Fulham are considering the possibility of appointing the former Northern Irish international as the new full-time manager in the summer.

Scott Parker is currently in charge on a temporary basis at Craven Cottage following the dismissal of Claudio Ranieri but the club hierarchy believe that he hasn’t done anything significant to convince them to retain him at the helm of affairs beyond the end of the current season.

Lennon, on the other hand, took over as the interim manager at Parkhead last month following the departure of Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City. Rodgers left Celtic in a strong position to win the Scottish Premiership title and the 47-year-old former club legend has ensured that the Hoops cruise to the domestic title.

The Scottish Sun also reports that Lennon is in pole position to land the permanent job at Celtic after guiding the team to a series of impressive results in recent weeks and he would only consider a position at another club should the Hoops refuse to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.

Lennon enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Parkhead as a player and emulated that feat as a manager earlier in his career when he guided the Hoops to 3 consecutive Scottish Premiership titles and 2 Scottish Cup triumphs between 2010 and 2014.

His only previous managerial experience in England came in the Championship at Bolton Wanderers between 2014 to 2016, though his time at the Reebok Stadium was blighted by off-the-field controversies. He left Bolton on mutual consent following a series of unimpressive results and returned to Scotland with Hibernian where he won the 2016-17 Scottish Championship.

To put things into perspective, Fulham should not have any second thoughts about replacing Parker with Neil Lennon. The 47-year-old can bring that winning mentality back to Craven Cottage after a disastrous season in the Premier League and he certainly has all that it takes to guide the west London outfit back to the top flight in the very first chance.

During his first spell at Parkhead as a manager, Lennon made a name for himself with his brave decision-making and tactical flexibility, completing a complete overhaul of Celtic’s squad in the summer of 2010.

The Northern Irishman sold plenty of experienced players like Artur Boruc and Aiden McGeady and brought in several talented, cheap and little-known players like Beram Kayal, Emilio Izaguirre, Gary Hooper, Daniel Majstorovic and many others to the club, most of whom went on to enjoy a successful spell at Parkhead.

Lennon likes to target free-agents and bargain deals in the transfer market, which is exactly the kind of approach Fulham need to adopt in the summer. It is not very often that a club gets relegated after spending close to a 100 million but Fulham have managed to do so.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, Jean Michael Seri, Calum Chambers, Tom Cairney, Andre Schurrle, Ryan Sessegnon and Luciano Vietto are all expected to leave the club after getting relegated and Lennon’s presence at the helm of affairs would help Fulham deal with such a major clear-out of players.

Moreover, he knows how to extract the best out of the existing players at the club, while also having a good reputation of being able to bring up talented players from the academy.

The 47-year-old certainly has the acumen and the charisma to stabilize things at Craven Cottage and get the club back to the top flight in the first time of asking.
