Who is Gianluca Mancini? All you need to know about this Arsenal target
According to a report by The Sun, Arsenal are interested in signing Atalanta defender Gianluca Mancini. The report further states that the club recently sent scouts to monitor the youngster’s performances in the Serie A.
The 22-year-old centre-back has featured 11 times for the Italian outfit this season, scoring 4 goals in all competitions. The Sun also claims that Borussia Dortmund are also eyeing a move for the powerful youngster.
Arsenal have shipped 15 goals in 12 appearances in the Premier League so far, making it the highest amongst the top five. Hence, it comes as no surprise that Unai Emery is interested in Mancini. But let’s take a closer look at the youngster’s profile.
Who is he?
Born in 1996 in Pontedera, Italy, Mancini joined Fiorentina’s youth setup in 2010 and spent five years with them. He was sent out on loan to Perugia in mid-2015 and returned to Fiorentina in 2016. However, the Italian outfit then sold him to Atalanta in January 2017.
The player was immediately loaned back to Perugia but since returning to Atalanta, he established himself as a key member of the first-team squad. And now, he is an indispensable option for the Serie A club, illustrated by his contributions on both ends of the pitch.
What’s his playing style?
Mancini is an immensely pacy centre-back. Blessed with lightning fast speed and agility, he can cover a lot of ground at once which helps him launch attacks to a great extent. The fact that he has scored 4 goals and provided one assist for Atalanta across competitions is quite impressive.
A closer look at his stats reveals his ability to surge forward and trouble the opposition defenders. Mancini has averaged 1.9 shots per game with a passing accuracy of 84.4%. In addition to that, the young Italian has won an average of 2.9 aerial duels per game, meaning he is quite proficient in the air.
As far as his defensive numbers are concerned, Mancini has averaged 0.9 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per game.
Move to Arsenal on the cards?
Mancini might not break into the first-team setup at Arsenal immediately. Emery has the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding and Sokratis Papastathopoulos to choose from. However, with Mustafi putting in underwhelming displays, Emery might need a new face to shore up the backline further.
And to that end, a move for Mancini could prove to be rewarding. He is young, skilled and blessed with an abundance of talent, making him a truly enticing option for Arsenal.
Forget Koscielny – Arsenal’s defensive would be a lot stronger if they sign these 2 top-class stars instead
Arsenal Opinion: 2 Laurent Koscielny replacements Emery must consider
According to a report from the Daily Star, Arsenal have named the asking price for their skipper Laurent Koscielny amidst interest from Borussia Dortmund.
The Frenchman, 33, has been at Arsenal since moving from FC Lorient in 2010, but with just one year left on his contract the club are looking to cash in on him. He has been struggling with injuries for some years now and he was limited to just 17 Premier League appearances last season.
A two-time FA Cup winner, Koscielny started the Europa League final against Chelsea in Baku in May but ended up on the losing side on the night. However, despite his advancing years, recurrent injury problems and just one year left on his contract, the Gunners have set a price tag of £10.6m for their experienced defender.
The report claims that Borussia Dortmund are keen on striking a deal for Koscielny, who is seeking a new challenge. The Bundesliga club can offer the former France international Champions League football next season and he is tempted by the move to Germany.
As Arsenal are planning to offload Koscielny, Unai Emery needs to replace his skipper with a young, talented centre-half. The Gunners were defensively all over the place last season and with Koscielny nearing the end of his time at the Emirates, Emery has some big decisions to make over the summer.
That being said, here are two replacements for Koscielny Arsenal should consider this summer.
1. William Saliba (Saint-Etienne)
Saint-Etienne’s promising defender William Saliba is already on the radar of Arsenal, as per the Daily Mirror.
Saliba, 18, made 16 appearances for Saint-Etienne in his breakthrough season, helping Jean-Louis Gasset’s side to a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1. He is tall, strong, athletic and good on the ball. The young Frenchman reads the game very well and his positional awareness belie his age.
At the age of just 18, moving from Saint-Etienne to Arsenal would be a big step up for Saliba but given his displays in Ligue 1 this past season, he clearly has the ability to make it big at the Emirates.
2. Mario Hermoso (Espanyol)
Just like Saliba, Espanyol’s Mario Hermoso is also linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, according to the Express.
Hermoso, 23, has had a solid campaign for Espanyol and was even called up to the Spanish national team after his performances in recent times. A technically-gifted player, the Spaniard is extremely composed on the ball and can initiate attacks from the back. He is strong physically and doesn’t mind duels with centre-forwards.

Good at reading the game, the 23-year-old is also a goal threat having scored three goals for Espanyol last season. Hermoso has a €40m release clause and Emery should just trigger it to add this solid defender to his ranks.
Arsenal signing this 22-year-old who emerged from Celtic’s youth ranks for £26m would be a massive coup for Emery
Arsenal Opinion: Why the Gunners should make a move for Kieran Tierney
According to a report from The Metro, Arsenal are one of the clubs interested in Celtic star Kieran Tierney.
The defender, 22, has graduated from Celtic’s youth ranks to establish himself as a star player in the team that has secured three consecutive domestic trebles. However, he was restricted to just 19 league appearances last season due to a number of injuries that kept him out for over two months from December to February. He also had a double hernia operation at the end of May.
But that has not stopped Kieran Tierney from attracting interest from a few European clubs, which includes the likes of Lyon, Manchester United and Barcelona. Keeping that in mind, Arsenal must do everything possible to sign the Scotsman from Celtic this summer.
Arsenal are yet to make any signings this summer so far. Unai Emery is keen to make new additions to his squad after his team missed out on Champions League football. The Spanish tactician’s aim will be to build a squad capable of challenging for silverware next season.
The Gunners manager’s priority has to be solving his defensive woes ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. Arsenal conceded over 50 goals in the Premier League which clearly tells it’s an area that needs thorough reinforcing.
They must lookout for left-back reinforcements, with Nacho Monreal entering the twilight years of his career and Sead Kolasinac being tipped for a surprise move to La Liga champions Barcelona.
Kieran Tierney would be a fantastic fit at the Emirates Stadium. He has long been viewed as one of the finest talents to emerge from Scotland over the course of the last decade. The 22-year-old broke into the Celtic side aged 17 and has already accumulated 170 first-team appearances and won 11 major trophies, including five league titles.
As such, Tierney’s fine form and room for growth have certainly seen the Scotland international linked with a move away from Celtic Park.
He is a solid, reliable defender, who is a left-back by trade but equally comfortable playing on the right, central defence and as a wing-back. A good crosser of the ball, the 22-year-old loves to play on the front foot and make overlapping runs.

The Celtic star is a perfect modern-day full-back but with more defensive acumen than Sead Kolasinac, something that could tempt Emery to bring him at the Emirates. Tierney’s combination of attacking prowess and defensive intelligence means that he can slot straight into Emery’s team.
From Arsenal’s point of view, it makes complete sense for them to be interested in Tierney. They could solve one of their biggest problems by bringing in a solid natural left-back in the Scotsman.
And for around £26m, the 22-year-old would represent a massive coup for Emery’s Arsenal.
Arsenal’s midfield could be resurrected if they shell out £15m to sign this 22-year-old playmaking genius – Agreed?
Arsenal Opinion: Why Nadiem Amiri would be a smart signing for Arsenal?
Another summer transfer window and Arsenal can forget big money signings, again. They have failed to qualify for the Champions League next season which means manager Unai Emery has just £45million to rebuild squad this summer.
The Gunners have already lost Aaron Ramsey to Juventus, with the 28-year-old signing for the Italian giants on a free transfer. That has left them with just three first-team midfield stars at their disposal and that isn’t enough for a team which aspires to compete for the Premier League title and other trophies next season.
Unai Emery needs to add at least a few new stars to his squad and while they will not be world-class options, the players should definitely possess quality and capable of making an instant impact. Finding quality players on a cheap won’t be easy but it does seem to be the best way forward for Arsenal at the moment.
The North London heavyweights were heavily linked with a move for Hoffenheim star, Nadiem Amiri, last season. A move didn’t happen then, but the Gunners must rekindle their interest and try signing the midfielder this summer.
Nadiem Amiri, 22, didn’t have the best of seasons in Hoffenheim colours due to injury problems. He managed just 13 Bundesliga outings, scoring three goals and assisting once. Despite spent majority of the 2018/19 on the sidelines, Arsenal making a move for Amiri now would help them hit new heights in the near future.
Amiri will be highly attainable for Emery and Arsenal, as The Sun claims that the playmaker has a £15million release clause in his current contract. The 22-year-old is a creative playmaker by trade but he can play in various positions across the midfield as per the manager’s requirement. Thus, he’ll provide flexibility to Emery and could be the perfect replacement for the departed Ramsey.
The former Germany youth international has fantastic vision which makes him tailor-made for the no.10 role from where he creates chances for his teammates. He likes to create his own space in midfield and take dangerous positions in the attacking third. Amiri works really hard off the ball and his defensive contributions can match his attacking potential in games.

The 22-year-old has good stamina and speed, using it very intelligently over the course of the season. He has impressive concentration and ability to distribute the ball with ease, and would suit Emery’s style of play at the Emirates.
Nadiem Amiri may not be the superstar that Arsenal fans may demand from the club but he’s someone with the potential to become that. With a little time and the right guidance, the 22-year-old can go a long way.
