Why Leicester City must go all out to sign Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic

According to a report by Dail Mail published back in October, Leicester City are interested in signing Celtic star Kristoffer Ajer.

The Foxes have enjoyed a splendid start to the Premier League this season and Brendan Rodgers has certainly played a big role in that. The former Liverpool manager tasted record-breaking success with Celtic, dominating every competition in Scotland. And now, he is being linked to reunite with Ajer.

A key reason behind Leicester’s unstoppable rise to the top is their air-tight defence. Despite the departure of Harry Maguire to Manchester United in the summer, Rodgers has managed to extract the best out of the centre-backs at hand.

As a matter of fact, no other team in the Premier League has managed to concede as few goals as Leicester City. With a mere 8 goals conceded and 31 scored in 13 league games so far, the Foxes have one of the healthiest goal differences alongside defending champions Manchester City.

As far as Ajer is concerned, he blossomed into the player that he is now under Rodgers’ guidance. Having joined the Scottish giants in 2016, the youngster has firmly established himself as one of their most promising stars.

The 21-year-old Norwegian is immensely talented, as evidenced from his stats in the Europa League so far. A look at WhoScored reveals that he has averaged 1.8 tackles, 1.4 interceptions 2.4 clearances per game in the continental competition thus far.

While Leicester City have managed to keep a tight defence so far, injuries and whatnot could turn the situation around to a great extent.

With a crucial run of fixtures coming up – and with the need to secure a top-four finish – the Foxes would be wise to bring in defensive reinforcements in the winter window. After all, Jonny Evans and Wes Morgan are both in their 30s and they are yet to find the ideal replacement for Maguire as well.

Celtic might not be too happy about parting ways with their prized asset midway through the campaign, Rodgers must try luring Ajer at all costs. His inclusion could really work magic for the club towards the crunch end of what promises to be a gruelling season.
