Leeds United Opinion: Why the Whites should go for Marcus Maddison?
Back in August 2018, a report from the Birmingham Mail claimed Leeds United were one the clubs interested in signing Peterborough playmaker Marcus Maddison in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old scored 12 goals and assisted a staggering 23 times in all competitions for Peterborough last season and has hit the ground running this campaign as well, managing five goals and 16 assists so far.
Considering Marcus Maddison’s form in the League One, Leeds United should reignite their interest in the player this summer.
Leeds United dropped out of the automatic promotion spots in the Championship last weekend following defeat to rivals Sheffield United, a result that leaves the Whites in third spot, a point behind the Blades with eight matches remaining.
How Marcelo Bielsa’s men react to the Sheffield United defeat after the international break is going to be massive as there’s a lot of football yet to be played.
Bielsa’s side have the quality to overturn United’s advantage and re-gain an automatic promotion berth rather than be satisfied with qualifying for the play-offs. Leeds’ aim is direct promotion to the top-flight and with the right mentality and attitude, they could certainly achieve it.
The Leeds tactician will be focused on getting a top two spot but simultaneously, he’ll have to start planning for the next season. Samu Saiz’s departure in January has left the Whites a little short in creativity and Bielsa should address that problem by signing Marcus Maddison ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
Maddison is a versatile player who can play anywhere across the frontline as well as operate at left-back when required.
The 25-year-old has the ability to pick out a pass that no one else can pick out in the League One, and also gets amongst the goals every now and then. He is very composed whenever he gets on the ball and is capable of either beating his man or picking out a forward runner.

The 5ft. 11in attacker has good technique, pace and agility and operates with a certain flair. Maddison never shies away from taking on defenders and his ability on the ball, coupled with a wonderful combination of his passing range and vision make him an all-day threat in the final third.
Verdict
Maddison is still in League One though, and after prior links to Leeds and his continued producition for Peterborough, he should be a name in the frame for the Whites after losing Saiz. He is among the best in the League One, so this would be some signing for Bielsa and company.
